It's a Japanese company, no one wants to offend anyone, hence why it takes over 20 years to come out with a lackluster car that is basically a rebodied BMW.

I am still wondering if there will be a market for this type of car - small 2 seater sport coupe. First, most millennials are into CUV, hybrid and electrics. Secondly for those who want some sport coupe performance like the Supra they can get that it in any typical 2+2 two doors such as the 435 or C class coupe with almost the same performance as the Supra but in a much more practical configuration - more seatings and bigger trunks. Thirdly, for the 1980's generation who were into RX7 and the likes, well they are probably too old now. Also the Supra is not cheap. If it were in the 40K range, I imagine it would have some success.

That's my point. There are a lot of alternatives for Supra performance nowaday. Back in the 1980's, there were only a few options. Now, pretty much every 2+2 sport coupe has the same performance as the Supra.

Let’s face it, there is a market for a 2 seat roadster. Most families have 2 vehicles (like mine does) and don’t need 2 family vehicles. We have an x3 for family outings (wife and I are 5 months expecting our first) and want something fun, fast, and most importantly refined that reflects our age. We love our m240i and it checks all of the boxes, with a little more practicality because of the 2+2. But the 2er has aged (well I might add) in comparison to newer 2+2 options out there. It’s in need of a revamp both inside and out, but that’s not happening for a few more years. The z4 is here now and has the more relevant looks (personal preference) and updated interior. With a family vehicle already in the garage, we can sacrifice the +2 of the 2er and opt for the z4. Not to mention the front seat is still child safe because the airbag turns off when it detects a kid in the seat, so the few times one parent needs to take the kid somewhere and family car isn’t available, the kid can still ride in the roadster. In the case for my wife and I, we agreed that whoever has the kid will have the x3. |
