Saw a new Z4 in person this week, any lack of buzz surrounding that car is well deserved. I have zero desire to ever own one.

2020 Toyota Supra Fuel Economy Announced

https://www.motortrend.com/news/2020...ers-announced/

Quote:
31 mpg on the highway

Information on the 2020 Toyota Supra is trickling in ever so slowly. After learning the sports car will start at $50,920, we now know official fuel economy numbers.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the Supra achieves a rating of 24/31/26 mpg city/highway/combined. As you would expect, these numbers outperform the previous Supra, which topped out at 17/22/19 mpg. The Supra left the U.S. market in 1998.

The new Supra utilizes a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six good for 335 hp. This engine comes paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Toyota estimates that hitting 60 mph will take 4.1 seconds, although we'll have to test out this claim for ourselves.

The 2020 Toyota Supra performs favorably compared to the 2019 Porsche 718 Cayman with the base 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 300 hp. The EPA rated the Cayman at 22/29/25 mpg. Meanwhile, the 2020 Jaguar F-Type nets 23/30/26 mpg with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, but only 20/28/23 mpg with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder. The EPA hasn't listed full fuel economy information for the Supra's mechanical twin, the six-cylinder BMW Z4. But we do know the four-cylinder Z4 sDrive30i is rated at 25/32/28 mpg.

Although fuel economy information has been released, consumers will have to wait a little while longer to get their hands on the Supra. The model goes on sale this summer.

Because that is one of the worst interior designs that exists.

When u sit in a lexus, lower the seat to your liking then realise half of the infotainment screen is blocked by those stupid vents, you wonder how the hell did that interior get ticked off ..

It's a Japanese company, no one wants to offend anyone, hence why it takes over 20 years to come out with a lackluster car that is basically a rebodied BMW.

I am still wondering if there will be a market for this type of car - small 2 seater sport coupe. First, most millennials are into CUV, hybrid and electrics. Secondly for those who want some sport coupe performance like the Supra they can get that it in any typical 2+2 two doors such as the 435 or C class coupe with almost the same performance as the Supra but in a much more practical configuration - more seatings and bigger trunks. Thirdly, for the 1980's generation who were into RX7 and the likes, well they are probably too old now. Also the Supra is not cheap. If it were in the 40K range, I imagine it would have some success.

And ahem, the M240i - it even has the exact same engine, the same rear seat room as a E46 3 and a trunk that I can personally attest will fit a weeks worth of groceries.

The M240 is a 2+2 seater whereas the Supra is a 2 seater. That was my point.

One is a Sports Sedan and the other a Coupe, regardless of what BMW calls the M240i it’s a sports sedan.

That's my point. You can get Supra performance for a 2+2 seater and a bigger trunk. The M240i may end up to be a better car.

Or just buy a used 135i for 15-20k tune it with MHD flash, throw on 2500 in suspension upgrades and you'll have one great car that's n55 fun, just as fast.

That's my point. There are a lot of alternatives for Supra performance nowaday. Back in the 1980's, there were only a few options. Now, pretty much every 2+2 sport coupe has the same performance as the Supra.

Hello, millennial here. 28 yo and trading my m240i for the new z4. Notice I didn’t say Supra. There’s a reason and you partially touched on it. Most of our generation are older. I’m about half way through it myself (1990) and age plays a big part, but also finances. The older ones have grown up and want a boulevard cruiser now for the comfort, with a little performance. Some of us still want the performance, but in something that doesn’t say “I’m 30 trying to be 18 and cool like the rest of the kids” and opt for the z4. The younger portion of the millennial generation are in their early 20s and can’t afford a $50k sports car like the Supra. They’re close and affording gt mustangs and ss Camaros, but those land in the mid 30s for starting price and that’s why they sell like hot cakes right now.

Let’s face it, there is a market for a 2 seat roadster. Most families have 2 vehicles (like mine does) and don’t need 2 family vehicles. We have an x3 for family outings (wife and I are 5 months expecting our first) and want something fun, fast, and most importantly refined that reflects our age. We love our m240i and it checks all of the boxes, with a little more practicality because of the 2+2. But the 2er has aged (well I might add) in comparison to newer 2+2 options out there. It’s in need of a revamp both inside and out, but that’s not happening for a few more years. The z4 is here now and has the more relevant looks (personal preference) and updated interior. With a family vehicle already in the garage, we can sacrifice the +2 of the 2er and opt for the z4. Not to mention the front seat is still child safe because the airbag turns off when it detects a kid in the seat, so the few times one parent needs to take the kid somewhere and family car isn’t available, the kid can still ride in the roadster. In the case for my wife and I, we agreed that whoever has the kid will have the x3.
