I believe it. Without getting into details, while the old man isn't rich or anything he does make a good living. I bought my Bimmer myself working only part time on the weekends and more or less full time during the summer. In this industry its all about two things: work ethic, and investment.

Most of these guys will work like dogs. I still remember distinctly from when I was 4 or 5: my dad went to work, came home 26 hours later. TWENTY-SIX FUCKING HOURS! He had the cash to prove he was at work and not screwing around with his buddies (I was a smartass kid, heh). With regards to the investment part, the license to own a cab in this city is now going for $235,000 or being rented out by owners for $1500/month for just the license or $65/night car/license. IF you don't own, a huge chunk of your income right out the window. If you own your own, like most of my family that has been in the business for years, it's great (they bought them years ago for like $80k, I even know one guy that paid $300 for one!). Essentially, it's like buying any other business after that as technically speaking, your a self employed contractor for the company after that.

I'm pretty sure your Aunt's husband has made some wise investments to afford that as a cab driver, license(s) and otherwise.
