Isn't there a big outdoor food market there once a week or so?

My town had no stoplight, no post office(!), but four gas stations! Town roads had no lines, a big center hump, & used to be sheep trails.
My BFs dad did contract excavation, & had a dirt track circle racer. Me 'n Artie rode in the back of a pickup for the ~ 2hr ride to the track. My other BFs dad ran the Esso station, my other BFs dad the Mobil station.
I now wear classic Wrangler jeans. I haven't changed much. Really.

I don't know but when I grew up in Brooklyn, DUMBO was a nasty neighborhood. A lot of the bad neighborhoods are now gentrified.

That's funny! I'm up near Grand Army Plaza, but on the 'wrong' side of Flatbush Ave.
Pre-covid, I kept a pretty short business hair cut.
I look very square, sort of like a Kennedy, a Pitt, a Costner, a Gibson.... you know.

You know you're old when you still write checks, keep a checkbook register and balance your checkbook. One of the girls that works for me is dumbfounded by this. It blows my mind that she doesn't keep track of the ins and outs.

Grand Army Plaza has a good Farmers Market every Sat. There is another farmers Market on Court St., I think on Thurs, which is closer to Dumbo.
Much of Brklyn is a bit, metro-sexual, these days. For so long the official dog of Brklyn was the Pittie, now it's the **doodle!

I write 2-3 per month. I'm proud to say that my daughter keeps one, as well. Her friends look at here like an alien with regard to this. Lol!

We moved to Brkln ~ '82? (that's 1982). My Grandfather grew up on a farm in Brkln. He joined Esso when 15 years old, until retirement.
We live across Flatbush from Park Slope, which was too expensive when we were looking.

Does anyone remember when you had to buy your phone from Ma Bell? I think the choice was one table model, one wall model, & later, the Princess phone!
Ma Bell used to drive around, ring your phone #, and listen to see if the # of phones ringing matched what you bought or rented from them.

I graduated HS in '81, it was still dicey in Flatbush, Prospect Park and Park Slope.

Really? I pay all my bills by check. The only thing I pay "online" is my mortgage which is held by the same bank where I have savings and checking accounts. I just transfer it.

You know you're old when you hurt yourself sleeping.

You know you're old when you're too tired for sex.

You know you're old when you wake up with a hangover and you didn't drink the night before.

Same. It makes balancing the checkbook possible. So much harder to do when money is getting automatically pulled out right and left by some new-fangled "autopay" mumbo-jumbo. My wife thinks I'm nuts but I really like the organization and control of sitting down once a week to enter all the debit card receipts into the checkbook, cut the checks, and balance the register to the penny. Some folks are just wired that way I guess.

I wrote a check 2 weeks ago. It had been 6 months since the last time I wrote one. The only bills not automated are ones where the payment can change and even then I do those electronically. Takes me about 3 minutes a month to pay bills. It's interesting you guys do it old school still.

It boggles my brain that said employee doesn't add in deposits, keep track of payments/withdrawals and just takes the bank's word as far as her balance goes. And she's not a dimwit. She's a smart kid (30ish). Does a great job.

Exactly! You are just relying on everyone you transact with to do their job correctly with YOUR money. I catch a few mistakes a year. Waiter not entering in the tip correctly, check amount not getting entered in correctly, double charge by a merchant. None of it appears to be nefarious, but it's all mistakes.

No it wasn't. The walk to and from either the bus stop at Prospect Circle or the F Train to 20th Street was always an adventure. I backhanded a guy across the face on the train station when I was about 15 for grabbing me. His friends were amused. It could have been a really different outcome.
