My reason for not wanting anything to do with said organization is that they are lobbying with the government for things that I oppose. Plus, I get better travel discounts and other stuff from employee perks plans that my employer subscribes to for everyone.....

Yes, as long as he doesn't eat my cat. Actually, my cat's pretty psycho, maybe your dog is the one who needs to be worried.

I could never really figure out what the point was. I did sign up for a year or two way back when -- the only benefit I remember was getting an "AARP rate" at a motel and I never thought the discount was much.

Like the AAA rate. Usually $15 more than the normal rate. What a bargain!

I agree that all are welcome on the lawn. If you're old enough to think you should be posting on this thread, you are old enough! |

...you know you're young..
I'm going to mix it up a bit. It's common knowledge around this forum that I have passion for hiking. I just turned 74 last week, but I hike with a couple of 80+ guys. They are lean and mean and they are truly inspiring. Well today out on the trail, we ran into Dale. He was headed the other way. Ol' Dale looked like he belonged on our lawn so I asked him how old he was. He said, "I'm 94". He does 10 miles around the lake twice a week. To know that there's a guy out there 20 years older than me is inspiring. It makes me feel young! |

Little Feet is one of the all time best groups. I have everything they ever recorded. I also saw them live when they were with Dylan in March of 1966. To this day the best concert I ever attended. I still have my ticket stub around here somewhere... just can't find it... old.
The hand cranked Victrola will be perfect for our Old Folks Boogie and BBQ. See what I did there? My grandma had one and I never tired of playing with it. Well you know that you're over the hill when your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill.

How did we miss it? August 17th every year is Baby Boomer Recognition Day!!!
The date was chosen because 8/17 was the last day of Woodstock. If you have to ask which Woodstock concert, get off my lawn! For anyone visiting the Catskills, the Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center is located at the historic Woodstock site, and hosts a lot of big-name performers every year: https://www.bethelwoodscenter.org/ .

When did Woodstock take place? "August 15th-18th 1969. The festival was meant to only last three days, but bad weather and traffic jams caused many delays and performances were pushed late into the night each night and early into the morning, finishing up on Monday, August 18th." "Day 3: Sunday, August 17, 1969 (ending Monday morning, August 18) Joe Cocker Country Joe & The Fish Ten Years After The Band Johnny Winter Blood, Sweat & Tears Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young the Paul Butterfield Blues Band Sha Na Na Jimi Hendrix" https://www.bethelwoodscenter.org/mu...0August%2018th. PS - just posted about this in the “What song are you listening to” thread this morning. Last edited by Esteban; 08-19-2023 at 12:35 PM.. |

Seeing adults I first saw as kids makes me feel old. I see the incoming freshmen walking around campus and realize none of them were born when I started my 3rd career. I took this shot in 2009 and I remember the day well. Beautiful day in Central Park. This kid is most likely in his mid-20's now and might have a kid of his own.
