I can't express how happy I am with how this shot came out:

Almost didn't make the shoot, had a flat tire as the light was starting to show and I was still 20+ miles from the destination, but it all came together. Read description below for the setup details if interested.. it was definitely one of my more adventurous setups, haha.

This one's getting printed on metal, for sure, and large!

Waves of Light by ddk632, on Flickr

This is one of my favorite recent shots. A beautiful sunrise at Deering Estate.

As the sun rises, from this angle the water of the bay is calm with peaceful waves and reflects the gorgeous orange and red hues of the rising sun towards the horizon.

For this shot, I wanted a perspective that was mostly water, and a bit of land and palm trees. I couldn't place the camera on the grass. I also wanted to convey a sense of being in the water for the viewer.

I actually placed the tripod on the lowest possible setting into the water, which is very shallow here - only a few inches. There was a small ladder leading into the water that made this possible, but the camera was much lower than I was sitting.

So, I made good use of the WiFi capability of the 6D and used my iPad to focus and set all of the settings and take the shot.

The tripod was completely submerged and the camera was perhaps 2 inches above the water. Plus, I had the Fotodiox CPL and 6x8" GND filter on as well, and the bottom of the filter was actually in the water!

It was well worth it to get this unique perspective of a beautiful sunrise and the waves of different colors.

You are indeed a brave man!

I wouldn't trust myself with that glass and body over the water!

Wonderful shot that will make a great large print.

Killer shot, David. No way I'd trust my aging fumbly fingers setting my rig over water. But your effort was well worth it. Stunning image. Make sure to post a pic of the metal print once you get it.

EDIT: Looks like you might have a dust spot in the center just where the sky is turning to blue. You may want to take that out before printing.

Thanks Mark great catch -- it might also be a dry water spot on the filter. I'll clone that out before printing. That's why I keep coming back here, BMW off-topic photography section delivers!

Here's the setup shot

Is there a "bad" angle to take a shot of that bridge? If so, I haven't seen it.

How are you finding the fit and finish of that car compared to a BMW?

I haven't found a bad angle yet Mark!

Fit and finish is actually pretty good. FCA has done a nice job modernizing their interiors. I have black leather seats with red suede heated and cooled insets. The U-connect interface is actually better in my opinion to the Idrive in my X1, though to be fair, that is an older system than the latest 3 series. I also realize that the X1 is the cheapest Bimmer you can get in the states.

That said, I cant stop grinning like an idiot when I open up the 375 HP 5.7L V8. I got a Fowmaster cat-back system put on last weekend and I feel like I'm back in high school with my Cleveland powered Cougar again. It's also a big car with a giant trunk, and it makes an excellent road trip vehicle, where my Bimmer is a better commuter as it's a bit cramped with two people up front.

Thanks, ShopVac!

Here's another shot I'm going to print... A 3 shot shift pano, same location after moving about a little bit to some rocks for a foreground element.

Ephemeral by ddk632, on Flickr

This could be the scene on a distant planet. A dark orange and rose and gray horizon beyond porous rocks, separated by a calm sea which mirrors the sky and the rising sun. An ephemeral moment in time, before the sun engulfs the sky as the new day begins. There is peace, tranquility, calm, and serenity in this moment.

I sat on a concrete ledge at the end of one of the rows of palm trees at Deering Estate, just basking in the beauty of the moment and of this sunrise, a sky so clear that it was unique in and of itself, and the clarity of the water showing the rocks beneath it, as well as above.

I knew this was going to be a special shot the moment I sat on that ledge, and I wanted to capture the whole scene as best as I could, choosing to take 3 shots using the shift function of my tilt-shift lens, moving only the lens from left to right to capture more than just one exposure can do.

Ephemeral. Lasting for a very short time. It is the essence of moments like this one, and a reminder of the ever changing yet constant beauty of the world around us.

That's a nice shot too, that water is so calm. Thanks for sharing. Can I ask what the dot is on the horizon (right)...I assume either a rock or a boat.

Thanks man! It's a speed limit sign, or a "no wake" sign, I believe. Some kind of sign, for sure.

My daughter was trespassing yesterday...I know nothing.

While I did the post processing - this is her picture, so no watermark from me. I thought it looked cool...and well...abandoned. Nothing fancy like the above pictures though

Nice Capture. Man if you throw some Lightroom magic onto that, it would really pop!

I did my Lightroom magic on it I don't like to overdo it with editing and prefer to keep things true to life as much as possible.

What would you do to it as it sits now, just curious?

You know, now that I know you prefer to keep things true to life, I wouldn't change anything. It's a great capture.

Everyone has their own style especially in post, so I probably shouldn't have made my initial comment. I don't want to sound elitest... if I did I apologize.
