I love when I'm at a car meet and people try to convince me I should have just bought a GTI instead of an M car. Because they are basically the same thing.
Uh huh. |

had a '15 gti with the performance package until the m4. Loved the car and if I could have justified keeping it, I would have. I miss it when I see one driving around then I downshift and I'm too happy to care about anything else.

The lease on my '15 335i is coming up and I am having a hard time choosing between the M3 or the Golf R. I know they aren't in the same class but the Golf is such a great car for the price as you mentioned. I was blown away when I took one for a test drive. I haven't driven the F80 yet so we'll see how that goes

I never drove a Golf, someone enlighten me, what makes them so special? here in Dubai they cost north of 30K USD and I always wondered........why? what makes them so special? why do people pay so much for a Golf or R32? it's a Golf at the end of the day, there must be something special about them
Heck even their power on paper is not bad, but not great as well....... |

Drove a 6MT on a test drive a couple of years ago. Was so impressed with it given the price point. Interior was high quality, was peppy, and fun to drive.

Agreed! I bought a 17 GTI about a month ago for a DD and I love it! It's such a fun little car and you can really feel how alive it is. The big thing I love is that you can push the car and not be at obnoxious speeds but still having a great time. I bought the Sport version and the payment is super cheap. Congrats OP!!
Now it's no M car but that was the point of me buying it. Have some fun but be more comfortable doing so on my daily drives into the city. |

congrats on the car OP. I guess I don't quite get it (fwd + non defeatable stability control = best car ) but I do have a soft sport for VW (having learned to drive in a 1987 Jetta 5MT, and also had a beater VW Fox with GTi engine swap) and can appreciate the awesomeness of getting a new car

I been urging to get another VW again since my very first car was a VW.
I would love to put myself back into a MK7 Golf GTI.

Congratulations! I think if I were to get a daily driver for my daily driver M3 (), it would be a GTI. Manual of course and with cloth seats.

A GTI is at the top of my list of cars I'd buy if I needed something more practical than my M235i. Good choice. Of all the sporty FWD cars sold in NA I think the GTI is definitely the most well rounded.

Yup mine is similar...White, tartan interior that my 18 year old son loves also, 6spd, sport package. Dealer screwed up when quoting my lease payment so I got the Sport model for less than the base...winning!! If it doesnt give me any real issues I will likely buy it after the lease is up if i can negotiate with VW.
