Still wondering why this new M5 has a silver grill - think it looks so much better in silver than all black plastic. Don’t see it as an option on US guide or the configurators.

Lowered, with some tasteful mods, and more aggressive wheels, and I think this new M5 is going to look absolutely smashing.
It has real potential to have MASSIVE presence. BMW knows what they're doing, as they keep pressing forward. Forget evolution, they design for a revolution (love/hate). And I applaud that. |

That Grand Daddy of the all,...the Legendary E28 M5! I just love that model M5!
Back in the day, I couldn't find,...nor afford an E28 M5! So, I settled for an E28 535is,...mounted some M5 Swaybars/Bushing and lowered it a bit. The results were many miles of Joy! Yessir!! Edit: M5s I've owned,...in this order: F10, E60, and F90.

F90 is Big Boss Hog for me. When the new M5 tried to turn at the culdesac, It looked pretty porky.

BMW's Design Department got me I don't like every BMW design, some have looked awkward and even bizarre over the years. But the ones I like, I really like...especially with some tasteful mods. The G90 falls in that category...I see the potential. Glad BMW doesn't always try to please the masses, especially for their M cars. "No great advance has ever been made in science, politics, or religion, without controversy." - Lyman Beecher Lyman, let's add "the world of automobiles" to that list. |

I still love the E39 most. Of course, I’m quite biased…😁

E39 is great car, the new one is a big & heavy highway cruiser. I guess that's what is all about at that level.
It will no doubt sell & in 7 years' time people will love & criticise the model that replaces it. I prefer the older ones, they have character |

The new M5 is a good looking car. There’s no question about it.
It just needs a carbon core and a bunch of aluminum or something. I don’t know why it weighs so damn much. It’s like they’ve left a bunch of dead bodies in the trunk.

G60 received a lot of hate for controversial design, and it is not just controversial (the cyber truck design is controversial, but the G60 is just plain mish mash). The chief designer admitted at reveal, they had to make several compromises because of a single platform for EV and ICE and also for the mixed styling of side front and rear (which was not forced by regulations at all). They killed the iconic hofmeister kink, perhaps that doesn’t bother some, but I can’t imagine that saves 2 extra grams of CO2 emmision, or reduces the drag coefficient by 0.001%, all that design debacle hiding in the guise of regulations. Where did the side vent above front wheel go from this generation of the M5? I can link a video if you haven’t seen it, an interview with the owner of BMW Blog. And not quite following your quote in this context, are we editing that quote and including “design” into it along with science, politics, and religion? This may apply to EV vs. ICE discussion, but there is no progress of humanity with lately non-coherent BMW designs. I work on vehicles to be launched in 2030, I understand innovation, and follow where you are coming from, all makes sense in spirit! We’ll let you enjoy the car, beauty or ugliness is in the eye of the beholder, maybe I need to see an ophthalmologist! But they recommend to step on the weighing scale for physical and the new M5 will surely break that scale.

I have the luxury of having friends and family with sedans and SUVs, so I simply borrow one when I need to haul multiple people or stuff. My last 3 coupes have been BMWs, but this is probably my last one, for a while anyway. I had the F82, and still have an E93 and a G82. Quote:

Well, imo it's not that strange a modern 5,1mt boat with a 4.4litres turbo/plug-in PWTR weighs 2.400kg. More or less it's the weight we expected. M2 is 4,5mt car with a "normal" 3litres T L6 and weighs 1.725kg...maybe it's a record for a so short coupé. These are the modern cars...and maybe CLAR being multi-energy requires a price to pay. |

But with a carbon core, and the proper use of aluminum, there’s a way to get the weight down no question about it it Hopefully the incoming Neue Klasse will cut back the weight to something way more respectable

It’s no 911, but never was. It’s the era of M5 identity crisis. You also say you don’t care about the hofmeister kink or the side vents, but love the new design. Those statements would not go together in my book from a bmw design enthusiast But hey, we are changing the good design definitions and it’s evolution, so nothing is right or wrong in the days we are.

So, no identity crisis. And yes, I don't need the designs of the past like the Hoffmeister Kink to carry on in every BMW into the future. BMW's heritage and history lies in other places in today's models. And I'm a BMW design enthusiast, but more I'm a car enthusiast. I don't like all BMW designs, actually, there's been many I haven't liked. But even with those that I don't like, I like BMW's adventurous spirit. They swing for the fences. Sure, they come up short, can't please all of us. I think this G90 is going to look pretty damn good with a few tasteful mods, like lowered with the wheels pushed out. Yes, it still looks massive, but in many ways, it's going to give it pure presence. |
