You were part of the reason this became a possible "life & death situation."

You said in the OP "I flashed my lights and cut him off aggressively."

Never should have done this. You made a bad situation worse by doing so. Especially when you're dealing with a person who is obviously not normal. Next time just ignore the a$$hole and he will probably move on and so can you.

Yeah, I'm kind of sympathetic towards the guy in the beater. People make mistakes or are in a huge rush (e.g., explosive diarrhea). What's the point of flashing and then cutting that person off, other than to provoke a fight?

Well by the same token, that guy didn’t need to further escalate it either. No reason to be sympathetic to him as he initiated and further escalated the situation too. It’s not all on OP.

Yep, this guy continued to escalate the situation.

In the OP:

"I accelerated and got into the middle lane and he was right behind me. He passed me and brake checked me and half his body was out of the window trying to get me to stop."

This guy was looking for trouble. These kind of guys are out there all the time. Don't be their next target.

Please stop victim blaming. We didn't deserve what happened to us merely for cutting someone off and flashing lights.

There seems to be a ton of hypocrites in this thread who have never done that...really something

I've never cut anybody off on purpose and I don't appreciate being called a hypocrite. Take responsibility for what you did. I'm not saying you're the only one at fault, but you did do something to elevate the situation, and with your wife and mother in law in the car. Could've gone way worse. Hope you learned something.

Victim blaming? Seriously? If you hadn’t cut him off aggressively, none of this would have happened. I’m not condoning the other driver’s behavior, but yours started it.

The average person is on edge in a major way lately. Not sure if anyone else has noticed it, but there's WAY more aggression and way less courtesy everywhere, and it shows up on the road the most. Seems to have gotten exponentially worse in the last 6 months.

No doubt I have honked at people and done stupid shit when the rage takes over.

The difference is I wouldn't come here and post about it, then get mad when people say I shouldn't have honked or cut them off. I would either man up and take the criticism which I knew was coming or I wouldn't post it at all.

I noticed it during/after covid. I would always be the fastest one around and would get pissed off at all the slow people. Then one day I get in the car and it was like everyone was doing 120... like wtf just happened. Hasn't really gone back since then.

That's in FL though... in NC it's the opposite... some of the slowest motherfuckers on the fucking planet and they love left lane camping and making road blocks.

These Tyga threads always go this route.

Tyga posts something where its clear hes in the wrong. Everyone calls him out on it. He gets defensive.

You escalated it, seems he was willing to finish it.

I provided an honest assessment of the situation. Two wrongs don't make a right (clearly)

What happened the other night was well past road rage and was verging into attempted vehicle murder status. It's amazing some people can't differentiate the action from reaction

Correct - which I owned. The problem is, you have people trying to victim blame and saying we somehow deserved that.

I'm sure everyone here drives perfectly, has a 800 credit score and has no debt though.

Do you remember the left lane thread? I wonder what triggered the initial cut off by other driver.

I didnt say you deserved it, and doesnt seem anyone else in here is saying that either. what we are saying is you started this whole thing off, and it could have easily been avoided.

Him taking it too far doesnt mean you get a pass for being an ass.

As i said, you fucked around, and found out.

Wow, you create a situation, then come online to cry about it, and try to make it out like it was the other guy raging!

You wanted to be a tough guy with a 2 ton weapon and then got the tables turned on you, sounds like you needed new underpants too!

A few words of advice that might help you out in life!

1. Don't start something, you can't finish!
2. Don't act tough when you're not!
3. Be smart!

How do you know they guy didn't just come from the hospital with his mother dying and was a little absent minded for a moment... Made a mistake and then you get all stupid and try to be a tough guy!?

I was gonna say more here but decided not too...

So remember too, you just put at risk those in the car with you, while you play your little game!

No one is saying the other guy was in the right. What they ARE saying is maybe trying ignoring them next time to prevent from getting murdered by a psycho.

But you do you bro... if you think you did nothing wrong then all I can recommend is pack some heat and send it!!!

Just give thumbs down to bad drivers, it gets the point across better than the finger.

It just isn’t worth engaging shitty people on the road. Enjoy your car, ignore the idiots, get home safe and happy.

I've experienced my fair share of road rage since moving to Southern California. There's a lot of dead beats out there looking to pick a fight. If you retaliate, make any hand gestures, tail too closely, etc. they get triggered. It's a scary situation when the other party can't let things go and move on with their day.

99% of people I've cut off just let it go, but there's occasionally that one maniac who won't.
