I am with you on the Cellar 8. They make some very good wine at very affordable prices. The Cellar 8 zinfandel is also good.

Another good wine I just tried (I'm actually drinking some as I type this) is the Sebon Estate 2007 Rocky Top Zin. Very smooth finish.

I am making a list of some of the wines recommended in this thread and give them a try.

Joseph Phelps Insignia is one of the best I've ever tasted. The only wine I have prefered to Insignia was an Opus One.

I did not buy these. I have a very good friend with a taste for high-end wines and I frequently benefit form his wine indugence. He lkes to open the good bottles when we get together. I typically stay in the 15-30 dollar/bottle range.

travagalini Gattinara is one of my favs. for a very inexpensive wine that is actrually decent i like Gumdale wines aprox $4-$6 a bottle and also good to cook with. Ravenswood Zin is my main stay of wines.

not so much on particular producers / vinyards.. but i like a nice chilliean shiraz if its a lighter meal, or a good Barolo if i plan on a heavier beef dish

Amarone valpolicella is ok also . I do like the italian wines.

We all have favorites in cars, beer and wine..and should be judged by category not i like Pinot's better than Chardonnay which is ok for personal preferences but not ok for judging what is good in that category or varietal.

No need to compare Silver Oak to Turning leaf Pinot Grigio or PIlsner Urquell to Guinness Stout, or a Hyundai Eleganti to a Veyron..Stouts should be judged against other Stouts and favorites picked per category..and of course we can favorites. I may not be fond of Pilsners but certainly after drinking quite a few can pick out the ones i like. Experience comes from tasting, lot's of it as i do daily as a past owner of my own 2 liquor stores for 20 years and now head manager and wine buyer for a very good wine and beer store here in NJ. I love beer as well as was the main buyer for beer for many many years. My current store has one of the best beer selections in NJ and wine as well. If anyone needs anything or some great deals on wines, beer or liquor feel free to hit me up. I can give some good pricing to forum members....the 1Addicts Liquor Discount LOL

Where is your store located?

One of my latest favorites is Incognito Rouge. ~$16/ bottle

A reviewer writes:

Color was a bright beet red. Aromas included hints of classic cabernet and chocolate. On the palate, the first impression was of a smoky rich chocolate, wrapped in fruit with a wisp of pepper. Finish was modest and pleasant. I'd definitely stick with this wine for an evening, thus earning it four stars. The only thing it lacked was a truly distinctive character that would absolutely pluck it out from a crowd of other meritages... thus the minus. Still, don't lose track of this as an incredible value.
