I6. Thing is huge! It does lack the modern ignition system and more importantly, Vanos. So I agree with 8600rpm that the S50B32 was the first great racing engine. Well maybe the B30.

E36 ftw! - a buddy drove mine and then went right out and picked up a silver 97 coupe (flew to Chicago and drove it back). I told him just dont get a black one to match mine

You might want to replace or at least polish those headlights. Or do you not drive at night?

I love my 1997 4 door. I drive on tight enough tracks that I can keep up with the newer, higher powered cars. I feels like that old pair of topsiders that I held together with Duct Tape cause they felt so comfortable. It's also in very good shape since it's garaged. I'll update my gallery sometime soon.
Yes, the motor is only 240hp, but that's enough for public roads in the Washington DC area. When the motor gets tired I'll drop in another S52 with cams, etc for 300 HP S54s are too messy and expensive to deal with. |

Dont drive much at night, as its not my DD.
But what little i have done, the illumination is acceptably bright. However, gonna do some polishing tho over xmas break to clear that up alittle.

Dakar II is a pastel tint.

That is nice, but a much more interesting figure, is that at least 340nm is available from 2600 - 6200rpm. It's very tractable for such an engine. Then with that big rush up top as a bonus.

Vanos is what makes these engines more streetable actually, not a racing engine. The guys that I race with that build really hairy race S50/2 or S54 engines for their race cars actually take the Vanos out or at least have to shim it. The wild cams they put in won't work with Vanos and there's little need for power in the low RPM range on the race track. They sure do scream on the top end though!

The basic kits are great. You'll wonder why you waited. If nothing else, the car looks a lot better without yellow, "teeth"

i like the yellow euro fogs better. might put on the clear turn signals.
but those are just cosmetics. i'm focusing on safety and other mechanicals first. if it's not broken or needed for track reliability/safety, it's pretty low on my list of things to do.

Yes, my bad. Got it mixed up with an older engine.

I started with and still have an e36 328i because the M3 was 10k more used. Then bought my 335i, then bought my M, finally. All are "limousines", sticks, and black. I love the M3. I've modded this thing and still am. It really does handle better than my 335i.

Ha that's pretty cool. Exact same here.
Bought a 328i in 2006. M3's were way out of reach. Then 7 years later, with M3 prices having come down and at the same time, more (saved) money to spend, I bought the M3. But kept the 328i as a daily.

I got my 328i in 2003. At the time I paid 12k for it which was trade in value with 88k miles and M3's were going for 23k+. Fast forward 11 years to 2014 when I got my M and these are all going for anywhere between $6000 to $15k. My 328i has 198k now and still runs and drives like new.
