Well there is no more E550 sedan anymore, and it's not a given there will be an E550 coupe once the new C238 arrives sometime next year. There's no GLE550 either. It's also not clear there will ever be a CLE (formerly CLS) 550. So the only vehicles affected would be the S, SL, and GLS. But we already see the SL400 name being used even though it has the higher output "450" engine so it's a bit doubtful it will change to SL43. Right now the S class V6 models (which aren't sold in the US currently) are hybrid or diesel so it's not certain there will ever be a gasoline V6 model. Same may apply to GLS.
So in the end they may end up skirting the issue. If not, though, they could always start calling the *550 model the *55 AMG which frankly is exactly what I expect they will do if the situation does arise. |

I will get the leasing offer next week, right now I am trying to find out how stable the reselling value is. I intend to keep it around 2 years and walk away with a minor loss. And I want to sell all my other cars. E60/E87/E89

I'd actually prefer the C450 as a daily. Have driven both that and the 63.

Ride isn't as harsh, cheaper to maintain, awd, better on fuel, etc. C63 felt like I wasn't putting all of the power to the pavement. It's a lot to wrestle into submission.

Awd is kind of a deal breaker tough. I want rwd. I will get the financial offer Thursday insurance is 5049€ per year for the 63 though. (full coverage) did not know it's a 4 liter V8 now either ...

Well that answers your question right there - if you don't want AWD not sure what we are debating here. That said the 450 is biased 70% rear so it's not that bad.

According to them (reasoning is to boost sales), it is a full fledged AMG. To those of us in the know, it is not. There's as much difference between the C450 and C63 as there is between a 340i and M3. 90% of drivers (non-enthusiasts) who walk into an MB showroom won't be able to differentiate between a C63 and a C43. They can buy a C43 "AMG" for roughly $20k less and think, because it has an AMG badge on the trunk, they got an entry level, albeit full fledged AMG. MB's new marketing strategy can be very confusing if you don't research their various models.

MB says it is a full-fledged AMG so why are people still saying otherwise?

Sure, but AMG is a Mercedes-created brand, and likewise "full-fledged AMG" is Mercedes-created marketing language, over which they have exclusive control. If Mercedes wishes, they can put an AMG badge on an oak tree, laundry soap, or some interstellar space debris and call it a "full-fledged AMG". Of course, they wouldn't ever do that unless they determined it would increase profitability, at which point they would more than likely immediately do it.
There is a car on the market today called the C450 AMG Sport sedan. For MY2017, this car - otherwise unchanged - will be called the Mercedes-AMG C43 sedan. This fact tells the savvy consumer 100% of what they need to know about the C43 model designation, and indeed all *43 models in Mercedes' new lineup. |
