I had a 2001 CL55 Mercedes. It had the same flip phone which was state of the art at the time. It wasn't a smartphone and it was minimally capable.

Also, every Z8 sale included the Z8 driving course at the Performance Center. The PC had a fleet of Z8s they used for the course.

For me, it's the epitome of car design; Motorola phone notwithstanding, of course.

I couldn't ever own a Z8, however, because my OCD would relegate it to Garage Queen status. And that just ain't right.

Timeless and stunning the Z8 is an icon. I imagine the bids for this will be stratospheric given the jobs connection it will open way above estimate with held bids alone before two or more seriously wealthy collectors get ridiculous. Seen it a few times like this when been to the goodwood auctions and that's without any jobs connection the opening bids make you think wtf then by the end your just speechless

not exactly. lol

This one still works and has been activated on Page Plus since May. Love the Startac, it is a badass phone. Call quality better than my iPhone and I can send/receive texts with this particular model. I can't get the browser to work. I guess ~20 years is too old. haha

I'm w/ you, Nick. It's ok but nothing to go ga-ga over. Kinda like ppl saying the Veyron is 'gorgeous' but they were subliminally influenced mainly because it was once the fastest car. Z8 is alright but never handled well for being the pinnacle car at the time.

Dynamically, the Z8 suffered from *not* having an LSD. Why BMW simply didn't use the one from the E39 M5 like the rest of the drivetrain is unknown. In any event, the torque of the S62 is hard enough to control with the LSD -- without it, one-tire-fire rules the day.

The other drivetrain oddity of the Z8 is that it came with a clutch delay valve which the E39 M5 did not have. Same transmission, same engine, same clutch disc and pressure plate. Odd.

Removing the CDV and installing an LSD, as numerous early on users did (before this thing turned into a collectible), transforms the car.
