seriously go to https://www.ontariohighwaytrafficact.com/
ask the question , they will put you straight, AFAIK , they can be detected by the police, not worth the points and conviction, hence why I dont have one I DO drive fast, but not like a dick, though I have been known to road rage. on a 4 series highway, anything up to about 120 is fine, you wanna go faster than that Quote:

If you're in California and you really want protection, a detector can only do so much. For complete protection use a radar detector and laser jammer.

I can only speak for Florida, but the Florida Highway Patrol also Target you from above.
They use a plane and clock you from one spot to another. By timing you from point A to point B your speed is determined. They will have a Wolfpack waiting to pullover violators. So keep those sunroofs open fellas and look up if you’re in Florida. Last edited by FlaPatsFan; 07-09-2018 at 06:41 PM.. |

That's where hopefully waze at least lets you know of the wolfpack down the highway in enough time. But who knows.
I got a ticket on alligator alley from a FHP who was going the opposite direction with radar off, crested a hill and caught me by surprise, turned on his radar and clocked me in the time it took for my RD to beep twice. Motherfucker was like the John Wick of radar troopers. I had no chance. When I saw him pull onto the swale in my rear view mirror to chase me, I just shook my head in admiration and pulled over. Well played. |

Radar detectors have been illegal in Ontario for as long as I can remember. In my experience I've found that if you don't drive like an ass hat and keep your speed to a reasonable amount over the limit the police won't bother you much.

Since I started driving in the early 1970s I’ve almost always had and used a radar detector. Except the last 5-8 years. Two things changed. One, I slowed down when I figured out the added stress of very high speeds, extra fuel burn and time for stops, and added risks including tickets (which also take a long time to get, negating time savings from speeding) just don’t make sense much any more for me. Two, they don’t seem to be as effective as patrolmen use other techniques and technologies more and more. Add to those that a patrolman can spot a radar detector, laser detector or jammer and a stop turns ugly when they do.
I drive a lot of miles on all kinds of roads, I’ve jut found that staying to about 10% over is pretty safe, staying “situationally aware” helps a lot, and Waze is great for the stationary cops on well traveled routes (with lots of Waze users). And my wife hates the beeping (V1), so I just put it away and haven’t taken it back out. No tickets in over 10 years, so for me I guess I’ve found a good balance. |

I completely turned off K and X bands on mine. Too much false alarm.
I thought laser jammer is illegal in CA?
