Everybody’s circumstances differ. Geographical area, state and type of roads, type of commute, family situation, disposable income all vary. For example at the moment, I need 4 doors on my daily driver, not just 4 seats. So an M3 it is, make the best of it (and don’t get me wrong, coded with all the CS settings I absolutely love it).

As soon as that requirement is removed in a year or so, Porsche here I come. Not a 1M that’s for sure. Out of all the M cars reviewed here, if I could have just one, it would be the CSL without a doubt.

I’ve driven the 1M, I get the idea behind it, but it’s not one that speaks to me for some reason. Not truly civilized enough for my commute, not hardcore enough for the track, it’s neither what I need nor what I desire.

Not everyone is an elitist moron. People genuinely like different things...

Yup, I do miss that V8 sound on the track.
It was glorious when I first got the car back in 2008.
But that's about it.
The car was too heavy, the gas mileage was very poor and the brake system was a joke.

Yes, that makes perfect sense and trust me, I did not mean to come off as an elitist. I have 3 kids and the F80 M3 is the best car I have ever owned for that purpose (I am a huge F80 advocate) I just really like the dynamics of the 1M for a B-road. I have owned a lot of cars and the 1M speaks to me, but may not to others, however there does tend to be a bashing of the car on occasion when comparisons come into play....seemingly from people who have never driven the car and that has never made sense to me.

The E92 GTS will definitely be a collector car with that 4.4 Liter stroker motor. Meanwhile the f80 GTS gets water injection lol.

The e46 CSL is cool. But the SMG kills it for me. better to get a manual e46 and build it up.

As the owner of a built up e46 M3 6mt— it’s far easier to 6mt convert the CSL than recreate what BMW did with the CSL in a normal M3.

This is true in the E6x Ms, but not in the regular E9x Ms. Was that different in the e92 GTS?

I have had the pleasure of driving all the m3 generations(not these specific collectors models), and if you include the 1m into that equation, then yes i would agree that the 1m was the most fun to drive hard. But i stick to my guns that the s65 is the best m3 engine ever made, and for that reason i will keep the e90m3 forever. Still wouldn't mind adding a 1m into my stable, but the prices are outrageous.
