Meanwhile, BMW has turned the M Brand, arguably a culture and cultural icon too, into some whored-up caricature of itself that is so far from it's roots it might as well just be a tee-shirt. X6M? Really? What in common is there between an E30 M3 and a fucking 5,800-pound SUV? I am an owner of such a metric cruiser of which you speak. I have a 20-year old Honda Valkryie Interstate. Back in the day it rode circles around the Electra Glide of the era. Its Goldwing-based flat-six made about twice the horsepower as the Evolution V-Twin in the late 1990's. I bought the Valk because in 1999 there were wait lists for Harleys and a flat-6 is a superior engine design, yet Honda only still makes its Icon 'Wing, while the full-dress Valkyrie Interstate was a lovely inverted-fork, large sport bike, bagged anomaly. If I were to replace the Valk, I'd probably get an Electra Glide. The Indian Chief is a bit too retro styled for me. The modern Harley is what BMW should have done with the M version of the 3-series IMO. Last edited by Efthreeoh; 06-25-2019 at 06:43 AM.. |

Just look 'em dead in they eye and say "Hey, didn't know they made the M3 with single exit exhaust. Nice car man."
They know what they did.

Don't really care about it, don't think it's a positive addition though.

I don't lose sleep over it. I absolutely don't care enough to start ANOTHER thread about it.

Didn't want to start a new thread -- a family member took a picture of the Ultimate Poseur Machine (probably assuming it was a special model).
M4 GT4 stickers on their base 4-series Coupe (doesn't even have the M-Sport package). |

Would be more fun to put a 328i on an M3... But again, most people outside the BMW world do not have a clue of the different models in any series...
We typically call those people badging up "poseurs" in French

I have a 335i sedan that had a horrendous wing on it thanks to the previous owner. I bought an oem trunk from a 328i and put that on my 335i.
Yes, there are a lot of people out there who don't know how to differentiate between models. |

I question who struggles more...the person that puts an M badge on their car or the person that has an issue with it
**edit** I'll add I think it's the person that takes issue with it while the person sporting the badge is doing what they want without concern the person that posts, points, questions - is the one struggling :-( Negative opinions abound - i get it - but the bigger question that needs to be answered is....why do you care? We can post away about what we "think" their motivation is but you'll never get it right because everyone has their own reasons..so maybe ask yourself (and share) why do you give 2-sh*ts I spend a lot of time in SoCal, I drive down PCH I enjoy looking at the ocean, I enjoy the cars around me, why in the hell should I care if a BMW drives past me with a non factory provided M badge? I look at those people and smile - they are enjoying the day, their car and the drive. I've owned a lot of BMW's - M's , V8's, 4 cylinders, blah blah blah - I love it when people modify their cars as they see fit...it shows passion and enthusiasm to me and I applaud that / I'd rather have a non-M, with M badge BMW pass me on PCH then a stock Prius (as an example) Last edited by itsglen; 06-30-2019 at 06:09 PM.. |

I think it is the person that feels the need to tell others how to think or what they should make fun of. It's the person that is miserable at parties.

I'm in total agreement with this statement. This of course opens up the conversation about BMW placing M badges everywhere.

I would be more likely to shake the hand of a man who adorned a 328i badge on an M3. Pretty damn funny to those of us....well.....us. To everyone else, it's just a BMW anyway.
