I agree - it's a quality control issue combined with lack of data from bench testing components intended to work together for a prolonged time.

Neither BMW nor customers want these issues to occur.

The question - how could this issue be avoided to begin with?

It wouldn't be a BMW if it didn't have either rod bearing or water pump issues.

Highly unlikely that any F3X B46/B48 engine is affected. This is not a fault in the engine, instead it's an isolated defect with the supplier and its parts that was used in production from November 2018 to August 2019. The F3X was already out of production in October 2018.

This recall could potentially expand but only to G20/G29 models. But as I stated in my earlier post, this seems to be a very low incident recall as only 26 Canadian VIN's are affected in all of Canada and 217 USA VIN's.

It would be a major undertaking, but bring everything in house.

Didn't M6's have rod bearing issues as well? There was never a recall but I thought there were some lawsuits pending against BMW.

They did not. Thats why they will be hit soon with the N20 class action. I have replaced my N20 engine with a new one at 80.000km.

Where did you see the number of impacted cars?

My F series X1 has been sitting at the Baltimore port for 2 weeks. Dropped a message to my dealer asking what was going on with the car and referenced this issue. Dealer called me and is suspecting it is affected but have a message in to the port to get confirmation either way. I'll update here when I hear back.

As of today, there is no current recall/stop delivery/bulletins for the F48 - last one being in June for issues related to the seat belt. This is not a new recall, it has been referenced and issued to the BMW network sine the beginning of October and has only outlined the G20 and G29.

Whoever is responsible for logistics at the dealership can and should easily be able to provide information. Either the vehicle was just missed/there was an oversight on loading/delivery to the dealership or there is a port campaign but that would have already been reported and a document would be available.

Did a quick search and didn’t see anything that the warranty has been extended. Will talk to my local dealers to verify this.

just lookup egr and spun bearings for mercs or utube streetlegit for a mass of merc probs.

Tesla's in the uk have an 80% chance of breaking down after 3 years so wouldn't be my first choice.

in the uk Lexus, Toyota or Subaru are the best but boring imho

..or bmw have treated me well so far on blown engine, egr etc so stick with them.

The rest feel behind the curve - especially the G20 v the best of vag

Had this problem on my -16 F48 X1 with the B48 engine about one and a half year ago.
Started with a whistling sound from the engine at low rpm, at higher rpm the sound disappeared.

I have a 7 years/100k miles warranty and the car is 2019 model so I don't care if it does blow up. It's just inconvenient if it does blow up when the weather is -20F.

I'm still trying to figure out why people are talking about rod bearings in here?
