Exactly what I'm entertaining. Wait till the 718 GTS 2.5 falls into my comfortable price range... probably a year or 2 away.

I have my eyes on used 718 Cayman T as well.

We had the base 718 and loved it. We miss it so much now we are looking at 718 Spyders. And I felt the 2.0t sounded great. Just different. It’s also less than 3,000lbs with the 2.0t and the chassis can take anything you throw at it even in base form.

That’s the key word. It sounded different, but very good! Not like the 6 though which is what I think most lament in the sound. I loved the way the torque was delivered but also was rewarding to run the car to redline which I did often in gears 1,2, & 3. One of the very few cars I left stock too because it was just sublime to drive. Also loved the gunshot pops of the exhaust.

I listened to 718 4-cylinder on Youtube, and it might actually sound better than my 6-cylinder M235i because of induction noise, which is almost absent in the BMW. Porsche actually has a valve in the intake duct which is engineered to produce that noise ( https://www.porsche.com/usa/aboutpor...iew/article06/ ). BMW still has a lot to learn.

So then I tried to create a few basic configurations of 718 T and 718 S on Porsche Canada website, and the pricing unsurprisingly veered well into the new M3 territory. IMHO it is hard for me to justify this Porsche pricing for what is basically a joyride with little practicality, and little equipment.

I agree, the Flat 4 does sound better than the I6 including my previous M4.

Porsches do hold value much better than M cars, but they are never going to win best bang for buck when looking at new car pricing - that has never been their MO. Creating the best driver cars, and leading the way in driving technology (PASM, PDK, rear wheel steer, EPS, etc.) are what they do better than anyone if I’m telling you how I feel. After owning one, it’s hard to want to drive anything else because of how good they are and while the price of entry is high, I think they’re well worth it for the overall package. If you simply want bang for your buck, many others do that well (BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Ford, Chevy, etc).
