They have about as much to do with it as they do on cars. When someone gloats that their Subaru or Mustang is as fast as a BMW or Porsche, we know that person has only a superficial understanding of what makes a performance car.

It's the same with clothes. The more you understand about them, the more you realize what makes a good brand and a bad one. Thinks are made even more difficult by knock-offs and some cynical marketing exercises by the brand owners themselves sometimes, but there are differences.

Lies. With designer clothes, the differences are USUALLY superficial. You're paying for the name.

I'm not saying all clothing is the same. As you say, quality should be a factor. Unfortunately, it's usually not.

Most designer clothes are NOT higher quality.

But I agree, if you can find quality, you should pay more for it. It should last longer.

ferragamo clothing is crap. They only sell it because it says ferragamo on it. The shoes on the other hand are awesome.

With expensive clothes and cheaper clothes my opinion is:

With expensive clothes (designer clothes), they are more expensive. They fit alot better then the generic brands. For me being 6'1 185lbs, Seven Jeans, Hugo Boss Shirts fit me alot better and suits my frame as compared to other brands.

With the less expensive clothes, you definitely get your moneys worth. However it just doesnt have that extra 20% that designer clothes like fitting (nor does it have the 80% increase price tag for it as well).

For me, I wear the more expensive clothes on dates, and the generic brands for school and Xpress for work.

In my opinion, I think Xpress does a good job imitating the higher brand clothes with an reasonable price.

Again, I'll disagree. In my experience, the designer labels use similar quality construction to the cheap stuff, usually it's even made in the same factory in China, but use better-quality cloth. The way to find quality clothing is to look for quality cloth and quality construction, and the latter is expensive.

The OP asked the wrong question for a different reason. Far more important than brand is fit, and that's where most people go wrong. People frequently grouse about how uncomfortable dress clothes are, but from what I've seen the problem is often they didn't buy clothes of quality materials that fit them properly. Gee, what a shock - your polyester pants, tight shoes, and wrong-size shirt aren't comfortable? How mysterious...

+1 the material might be the same (100% cotton for a shirt from Dolce & Gabbana vs 100% cotton shirt from say GAP), the construction, fit, and feel of the fabric are completely different.

For work I mostly wear Gucci, DG, Dior Homme and Prada when I'm outside of the OR. I think dressing up is part of professionalism and it does help you project a confident image.

For leisure, I don't really care, I just wear whatever I please.

The truth is that you should buy expensive pieces of clothe that you cant buy for a lower price or if the material is worth the money. For example you dont buy a white-t from prada if you can get a white-t at gap.

Do people really wear out their clothes? Most folks don't keep clothes long enough because the style changes.

Men tend to wear clothes much longer than women and styles don't change that often. Look how long we've gotten away with a blazer, white shirt, and wool slacks.
