I consider myself a candy pro. Unfortunately, I have the dental work to back it up. These two choices below are the bomb. Please do give them a try

Dark chocolate for me. Minimum 80% cacao or I won’t eat it.

I also like sour patch kids

My usual lunch place has mini dumdums at the register.

Butterscotch and root beer ftw!

I don't normally buy candy outside of Halloween but I'm a sucker for anything caramel or toffee. Those Chuppa Chups lollipops at Springhill Suites are addictive, too.

Glad to see you guys are supporting your local dentist. It's too bad none of you seem to live close to my office.

Normally I’m the same, toffee or peanut butter & chocolate - like that pb snickers = savory + sweet, I can’t have that stuff around or I’ll devour it…

These strawberry-spicy chewy candies from Mex I ordered are pretty good, definitely unusual which is nice.

Odering the those Jelly Babies.

If you haven’t had sour patch jelly beans yet - they are great.

Brought back some chocolates from the Dominican.

They're.... ok. Not bad but nothing special. I guess the Dominican isn't known for chocolate.

It's hard to judge the chocolate itself when the product is a milk chocolate. My experience is that it takes a fairly high percentage of cocoa solids before you're getting what the chocolate has to offer - say, 60%+ or so. Not everyone likes dark chocolate, though, so it's a matter of personal taste.

I'm no expert, but the top Venezuelan cacao is being grown only 600 miles south of the DR's main growing region. That would suggest the DR's chocolate could be very good.

We lived in Venezuela when I was a kid, and once my dad discovered the chocolate available there, he made a pan of fudge about once a month. Compared to the Hershey bars we'd had in the States, the Venezuelan stuff was incredible. I still favor bars made from that country's chocolate over all others.

If you ever want to try a sampling of high-quality dark chocolates from around the world, this outfit has a package that's worth a try: https://www.burdickchocolate.com/single-source-bar-set. No affiliation - just a satisfied customer!

This is another favorite dark chocolate bar of mine; it's from a Swiss manufacturer using Bolivian cacao:

I'll have to check it out! Other issue was we picked these up from the airport so I'm sure there are better quality chocolates available elsewhere in the country.
