Official: iPhone 3G Soft Unlock Countdown

I have a 3G running 2.0.1 that is jailbroken however I still have to use the card insert over the SIM card when I travel overseas using non-AT&T network, has there been unlock that completlely removes the network lock? Network unlock is my major concern, just be able to use both AT&T and all other GSM networks WITHOUT insert a piece of plastic over the SIM card.

im a total noob at this stuff, but can you unlock so you can use it at Verizon or does it only work with SIM cards?

The soft unlock does not require any hardware. You should be good on Verizon but read the info about the unlock first to see if other with that carrier are having troubles. It is fairly well documented.

iphone will never work with verizon (different networks). an unlocked iphone will take any of these SIM cards on this page here: http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/index.shtml
