A lot of people will argue that the water will remove most of the toxins from the smoke, but only water soluble toxins will be absorbed (ie. tar containing most of the carcinogens isn't), and since lower amounts of nicotine are absorbed you will usually smoke for a longer amount of time than say a cigarette, which causes you to inhale more smoke that has all kinds of great stuff in it like carbon monoxide, various toxins, and different kinds of metals.

Basically, if you do it once and a while, just like with smoking a cigar, you minimize your chances of causing damage or disease to your body, but if you make a habit of it you know where you stand just like with cigarettes. To think that the water is protecting you is kind of naive though...

fuckk im scared now i think i did hookah for the past 4 Days!!!!!
but the only reason i like doing it is cuz i like the smoke coming out and like making O's not because i cant live without it or i CRAVE it...its just a social tihng to relax and chill

Its not that bad...some of the high quality shisha you can buy has 0% tar, i checked last night as the bar i run sells hookahs.
