My son graduates SMU in May and thankfully already has his first career job all set and waiting for him when he does. Once he got that job, the first bit of advice I gave him was: Save for a house. Save for an engagement ring. Don't fall into the trap of spending that money on expensive apartment complexes (everywhere these days) that literally give you nothing at the end of your lease. Don't fall into the trap of expensive cars just yet. So many that young are unfortunately doing just that. It looks great on social media, and not so much in the future. 20 year old's in M3's generally say 1 of 2 things: lots of family money or no financial planning whatsoever. The example I gave earlier of my son's hockey teammate having a brand new M4 Comp, well his dad owns a major sports team, so that would be option 1 from above Yeah, I get it, i'm 53 and old and i'm totally showing that age with what i'm saying but.....i'm not wrong (I'll also say, that if I had the option at 20 to buy an M3, I probably would have fallen into that trap. As it was, my first new car was at 25 and a '96 MK3 GTI VR6...and I loved it. As close as I could get to an M3 as I could at that age)

As a side note to the above: while reviewers liked the MK3 GTI VR6 when it came out, they roasted it for being so HEAVY at 2800 lbs
Back then, I knew Garrett (developer of GIAC Software) personally. He was just getting started and was working with Todd from AWE Tuning, who was also just getting started. My GTI was a test car for Garrett and I regularly got chips from him and then installed by Todd at AWE (located in Philly) and he'd dyno the car. It was all brand new then and the mod community was really taking off. Garrett was a genius and an innovator. I know the company is around, but not sure how active he is anymore. Todd put in an adjustable Koni suspension on my GTI and with the Garrett chip, man that thing was fun. Sorry for the off-topic posts.
