Agreed on getting a used 08+. Not only that, but getting one with the Z51 package is a must (comparable to BMW Sports). You get better cooling, stiffer suspension, and better brakes + wheels all for $1,600.

Also if you can find one, get one with the rear Axle, 2.73 ratio, limited-slip, performance option.

A C6 built like this would have little trouble trouncing a Gallardo.

p.s - Fuck automatics, but that goes without saying.

If you don't need a back seet, the C6 is a vastly superior option.

If you haven't seen the interior of the new one, check it out. Much better than the first gen C6.

It'll beat any car BMW makes performance wise, whilst still being cheap to maintain, very modable, and good on the gas. Hard to go wrong, especially with the prices available now. If GM starts to go under, you'll see even better deals.

You ment 3.73 right? The 2.73 is extremely high. You'be probably be able to do 100MPH in second gear with that.

No 7:59 whatever in that mag.

Where did you find the '7:59' lap if I may ask?

to the OP - my vote is for the vette, too, if all you want is a fast 2 seater. if you want some luxury too, 335 is the best choice.
Roast a non-Z06 vette in the corners? Did you happen to see what the non-Z06 did to an M3 in the Lightening Lap in 2008 with Car and Driver? Try that the non-Z06 Vette was 4 seconds a lap faster than the M3! That is an eternity on a road coarse. The CTS-V was quicker than the M3.

You are comparing a VERY good GT (M3) vs. a sports car. The Vette weighs quite a bit less than the M3 as well. You're trying to compare apples and oranges. The M3 will not compete with the Vette, even the standard Vette. The 335 doesn't stand a chance unless you spend major $$$ to upgrade and then it's not going to be stock vs. stock anyway.

For those of you that don't think the Vette is liveable for daily use - no worry. I've owned a C6 Z06 and it was fantastic daily. The Vette's have always been praised for their useability and ability to be driven from coast-to-coast. Don't even worry about it. There is a ton of room in the car and the trunk space is huge. Fuel mileage I have seen (in the Z06) on the highway was 26 - 27 mpg (that was when I was making 440 rwhp).

No, you're simply wrong. They didn't test only 1 C6, they tested 2. One was a Manual with the Z51 package, and the other was a Sports AUTO (tiptronic) with stock brakes, and crap-run tires (i.e - all weather).

Yeah you're magazine isn't the conclusive list, and is probably missing a lot of times, that's okay, I'll fill in the holes in your information.

http://www.automobilemag.com/feature...mes/index.html

7:59 Chevrolet Corvette (C6)
Driver: John Heinricy
Note: Z51 package (aka Manuel + Sports).

The 8:15 was done with the AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION or "Sports Auto".
http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/Nurburgring

As for the 7:59 run, there is some debate as to who drove the car, some say it was Dave Hill (former chief engineer of the C6 and a very capable driver), or John Heinricy, a professional driver who does a lot of GMs Nurburgring runs. Regardless, it's a time listed on the official list:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordsch...test_lap_times

The simple fact is there isn't a single BMW in the current gen that can break 8 minutes on the Ring. A normal C6 has done it, with change. Vettes are awesome.

Take what I have given you young one, and learn.

The 2.73 is a pick able option, if you dare.

Seriously, test build one and see for yourself.

Its very odd, but i've mistaken a C6 for a 360 in my rearview a couple of times. I thought i was the only one.

I went over to the Vette site to look it up, and it's an option for the automatic only. The standard gear for the automatic is a 2.56, so you're right, that is a lower gear. I had no idea the automatic transmission was geared so low. In the past the ratios have been much closer to the manual transmission. The manual car gets a 3.42, so a 2.73 would be slower for it.

From the GM site:
Rear Axle, 2.73 ratio, limited-slip, performance. Requires 6-speed paddle shift, automatic transmission. Included with Z51 Performance Package

Oh, right, you've got the snob factor to worry about. Heaven forbid some shallow douchebag thinks less of you for driving the Vette. We all know how valuable the opinions of shallow douchebags are.

why dont you take your s2000 and go hit up a fast and the furious fan site.

IMHO this is a pointless comparison. If you want to compare something to the C6 compare a Lotus Elise S/C. The only thing the C6 will do better is comfort (by a landslide too).

I think alot of us on this board could have purchased a C6 if we wanted. Its a wonderful car, but I prefer my BMW.

If I am doing 95% track 5% street I would go with the C6, but im not

With a stock C6, you get maybe the most fun car you could buy for that amount of money. Its a bit faster than the M3, but its got TONS of TORQUE so it pulls like a mofo.

I guess im partial, my family always had a corvette of some kind growing up, and i can tell you i always enjoyed driving the vette more than any other type of German car because you get addicted to the power. Any gear, any speed, the car can throw you back in your seat and peel the skin on your face.

Get one.
I dont dis-agree with it being a good deal. I think its engineered amazing. Im amazed its so light.
