i agree with you. its MUCH MUCH MUCH colder up there at cruise altitude.

True that, however, the pressure and moisture levels are so low up there, there is virtually no chance for any icing that high...

That was British Airways Flight 5390, BAC-111. The cockpit windscreen was just bolted from the outside. So once the bolts failed, the cabin pressure just burst the windshield out and sucked the captain out.
Investigation found the maintenance used a bolt one size smaller coz the maintenance crew decided to use new bolts but did not verify the correct bolt to be used.....

Tragic story...I heard about this 6am the following morning A girl I used to date (whom I still am friends with) is close with the captain/pilot & his wife being they are from the Tampa area.

prop planes does have a less effective deicing system when compared to jets, but it's not unflyable by any means.
