Sniz, great work mon amie. I don't know about S/C either. I used to own an '95 OBDI E36 M3. I purchased some goodies before I ended up w/ a Blower from Dinan. I had Schrick cams on it. When the Blower was added, torque wasn't readily available 'til like 4k rpm; which I was disappointed at, because when I drove a Dinan tuned '96 M3, the car was a jet off the line. That made me purchase the blower. Even my mechanic told me there is a lag and that we should remove the cams. He said the window of power moved quiet a bit. But upper power was a plenty. It pulled hard all the way to 165 mph (not going to say where I pulled that off )

Awesome pics and thanks for the update bro.... I'll have to visit you guys at the garage sometime, I am in the college park area!
Is the engine built at all, head, bottom end, etc? What is the stock limit to the e36 engine under boost? What turbo system did it come with? Thanks again for the posts man!! |

the bottom end of the motor is all stock w 85k miles on it. Thicker MLS headgasket and ARP studs have dropped the compression ratio though. stock engine has been good for most people until 650whp or so. I dont plan on getting to that point but when its necessary i'll build the motor. car came with a Technique Tuning stage II setup, great kit.

UPDATE 8/30
Got a little more time....30 minutes or so and opened up the 35r to "reclock" it and rotate the compressor housing to match the old turbo. Also took the time to degrease and clean the compressor housing. Nothing crazy, more coming tomorrow night....god willing it will be mounted. Got it apart Compressor Housing (no gasket) Rotated to match the 60-1 Random parts laying around the garage, will have these organized and cleaned tomorrow too Downpipe and Wastegate pipe mid pipe and charge pipe

UPDATE 8/31
UPDATE 8/31
Spent about 2 hours working on the car/turbo tonight.....work keeps getting in the way of my fun!! test fitted the gt35r to find 2 points of contact with the transmission/engine block. Problem #1 This fitting for the vacuum hose for boost control is in the wrong spot. Previous owner had the compressor housing 180 degrees in the other direction so it worked for him. Had to remove it. Will find a brass plug for this hole tomorrow and find someone to retap in a better location. Problem #2 and then the exhaust housing is/was contacting the transmission here. Spent about 30 minutes with a grinding wheel and got my clearance ITS ON BABY ok, well now its off, have to get that fitting retapped tomorrow and then it will be on for good. I have a weeping oil pan gasket and rear main seal as you can see here. These will be addressed this winter once I have more downtime on the car. thats it for today

No offense, but I do not see why this project is such a big deal. If maybe you were doing a 1000+whp project then thats a little different but you aren't even going to come close to that, but it will be a pretty QUICK car.

I find it interesting and kinda of a big deal, considering he went from a 335i e92 to a e36.

I guess it was the higlight on the main page of E90post.com showing this build that made me come to the conclusion that it was a major deal.
