The main advantage of a polarized lens is that it contains a special filter that blocks intense reflected light from flat surfaces (roads, water, etc), which ultimately means a reduction in glare. One more note on cheap lenses. While cheap lenses can block UV, they also distort the light that is not blocked or filtered. Cheap lenses are just pieces of plastic with a tint coating. Cheap lenses may (or may not) block harmful UV, but, that's about all they do. Cheap glasses are a great example of you get what you pay for!
