Since I'm super allergic to bee stings, this is as close as I was willing to get.

Since everyone likes a good bird picture...I just liked the mishmash of colour.

Bees for Peter:
Bee-ball by David Stephens, on Flickr I wasn't close either, Peter, since I shot this with 700mm on a crop-sensor. Dave

OMG even that is too close for me. In the first picture after I snapped the picture it flew right at me...never again.

This old lighthouse is now a bed and breakfast. If the drive to the creepy marina you have to use to get out there doesn't scare you off, it is probably a really nice way to spend a night on the water.

and if the Chevron security doesn't run you off either.
I spend much time keeping the flowers up and going for the bees, without them the Ag industry would collapse. We are seeing that now.

I find it interesting to study the wild bees, of which there are hundreds of species. Some only live a few weeks per year and pollinate as few as one type of plant. The interdependence of the ecosystem is truly amazing. I don't have any room for a garden, but if I did, I'd have lavender for the honey bees and various other blooms to attract the hummingbirds. Fabulous image of the humming bird David.
I've just had a look at the EXIF and that 1/2000sec. shutter speed has really caught the bird so well in mid flight. Brilliantly done.

I like to keep a little wing-blur on most of my hummer shots. When you want to totally stop the wings, you need 1/3200-sec.

They probably use more pesticides in CA than in CO. Something is going around where the whole hive dies off and they don't know why.
Dave, On both of those shots, love that background. Plain and simple. David, We had one of those sunsets yesterday. They are very rare here and very nice with the road toward the sun.

Thanks Kevin. Yeah we get them much more often, but that one was pretty awesome even for down here.
Here's another from the following day. This one is special to me, because it was the first time I took the kids (2 and 4) and the photo gear and did a little shoot of the sunset. Awesome moment. Super-tele bokeh can be your friend. I saw somewhere that a virus, or something that is killing off many honey bees. That swarm was in the middle of relocation when I caught them. I have no idea where they ended up, but they seemed very healthy. Dave
