Hummingbirds in the UK, no I'm afraid we don't. I suppose even if they were to come over from continental Europe, they'd only make to the south east of England. Up here in northern Scotland would, I suspect be much too cold for them !

Anyway, here's a shot of a cormorant drying off after fishing in the River Lossie estuary.

I'm surprised with the cold that they withstand here in Colorado, but it's only a couple of species here. They're a constant out in California, where it's warm most of the time.

If they can make it to the South UK coast, then they can make it to Scotland. I think it's much wetter there in Scotland, so even though they can take some cold here, they're not big on cold and wet.

One more from that amazing sunset last week, finally processed them all and kept a total of 6 images - 3 of which are actually shift-panoramas consisting of 3 exposures each. That is a lot of keepers for the type of shooting I do!

Click through to Flickr to see this in much higher resolution. Great image.

Cormorants can be really tough subjects with all that black on black. Well done.

Funny you should say that Kevin.
I recently had to upgrade my ancient Nokia phone because the sim in my BMW didn't like the sim in the old phone.
BMW UK recommended an iphone, so I looked for the cheapest deal I could find (I'm not a fan or great user of mobile (cell) phones), and got myself an iphone 4S.
Actually I'm enjoying the phone and, more importantly, it and my car seem to get along just fine.
I recently tried out the camera and am amazed at the quality.

Dave and Mark,
Thanks for your comments on the cormorant. The sun was really low and showed up the feathers nicely on his back.

Your welcome.

This shot really demonstrates the value of being out early and late. You can sometimes get such incredible light that you think, "If I could just find a subject, anything will look stunning in this light." The "golden hour" isn't just for landscapes.

Not only that, but I've never heard of a cormorant before today. I learned something today, so I've fulfilled my goal. Thanks guys!

Another shot from last week, this one focused more to the north (right of image) where I wanted to catch the expansive cumulus clouds hanging low in the sky. 3-shot pano.

Wish I would have captured a 5-6 shot pano of the entire horizon...

Rushed and got my camera as soon as I spotted the little fella.
The shell was like a quarter of an inch in diameter, but it doesnt seem so from the pic. Timing was perfect as he looked the other way towards the flower

Welcome Andy.

I like the sharp detail of the snail against the bokeh that's smooth, but still shows us the environment.

Some beautiful shots from Cyprus, from the wide landscape to the snail close up. Both are great shots and so very different. The mist in the landscape is especially nice. I love the colour, composition and selective focussing of the snail shot. Very well timed so that you've got the snail against a lighter part of the background. The out of focus flower just sets the scene.
