This picture is awesome. Here you see the "automotive landscape" circa 2024.
In the front you have a cool matte blue BMW, with it's vents, carbon and menacing headlight LED arrangement. Next to it sits the brutalist minimalist stainless steel playstation 1-esque EV, a stark contrast to the aerodynamic BMW next to it. In the back you have a run of the mill Tacoma, favored by many as cheap reliable transportation. Flanking the back you have a fleet van, a sad blue crossover and the great grandfather of the Tesla - A prius. I look forward to seeing what the world looks like in 2034. I think the cybertruck looks cool.

Software startup Recurrent helps used EV buyers know how much life is left in a vehicle
Mon, Mar 25 2024 Recurrent, a Seattle-based startup, aims to do for electric vehicle batteries what odometers do for fuel-powered cars: show the wear and tear on the battery and its future value. Recurrent uses no hardware, just the software that runs on thousands of electric vehicles daily. It can analyze a car over and over again, normalizing things like weather, driving and charging style in order to compare two similar vehicles and show which has a stronger battery, and consequently a higher value. EV owners can connect to Recurrent via methods like OnStar or a Tesla account. Dealerships can also use Recurrent to show comparisons to buyers, potentially driving up the sales price for cars with stronger batteries. https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/25/this...%20a%20vehicle CarFax for EV's |

Dem facts. Analyst revamps Tesla, Rivian, Nio price targets on electric vehicle demand
Mar 25, 2024 Mizuho Financial Group looked at the current EV market and decided to downgrade Tesla, Rivian (RIVN) , and Chinese automaker Nio (NIO) to neutral from buy, citing slowing demand and increasing inventory. Analyst Vijay Rakesh said he remains constructive on the broader electrical vehicle landscape with the long-term trends to electrification, but he believes that near-term EV demand and tightening liquidity are creating challenges into 2025. EV inventories were up 92% year-over-year in 2023 and are accelerating, he said. Rakesh, who slashed his price target on Rivian to $12 from $24, said that he still sees the company well-positioned in the strong SUV/Pickup markets Rakesh cut the price target on Tesla from $270 to $195, telling investors that while Tesla remains a global leader with scale/profitability "bar none," moderating growth, China competition, and higher inventory are challenges. https://www.thestreet.com/electric-v...vehicle-demand Only thing dumber than a EV pick up are EV heavy equipnment. |

The laws of unintended consequences bites the greenies in the butt again.
4,000 acres of solar panels were destroyed in one Texas hail storm. Locals are now worried about groundwater poisoning. Mar 26, 2024 Here's the "green" tech they're telling us we need to adopt 100% by 2035 to avoid environmental catastrophe: "My concern is the hail damage that came through and busted these panels we now have some highly toxic chemicals that could be potentially leaking into our water tables," said Kaminski [A]dmium telluride, copper indium selenide, cadmium gallium (di)selenide, copper indium gallium (di)selenide, hexafluoroethane, lead, and polyvinyl fluoride. In 2022, Popular Science reported on 4 solar farms that violated the Clean Water Act. In 2021, journalist Michael Shellenberger wrote an article for Forbes where he warned that solar panels produce 300 times more toxic waste than nuclear fuel. While the International Energy Agency reported that heavy-metal leeching into groundwater is below the level of concern per World Health Organization guidelines, one has to wonder how that changes when the toxic parts are shattered and broken over 4,000 acres! "There's numerous makeup in the chemicals on this thing," Fugua said. "The majority of them are cancer-causing." |

You can't make this kind of stuff up. This will get interesting
China Files WTO Complaint Against U.S. Over Electric-Vehicle Subsidies 03/26/2024 China filed a complaint at the World Trade Organization over the U.S.’s Inflation Reduction Act, saying that it was discriminatory and distorted fair competition. Beijing will use the WTO’s dispute-settlement mechanism to challenge electric-vehicles subsidies, China’s Ministry of Commerce said in a statement posted to its website on Tuesday. Under the Inflation Reduction Act, which President Bozo signed into law in August 2022, consumers in the U.S. won’t be able to claim a $7,500 clean-vehicle tax credit if they purchase cars containing battery components from a “foreign entity of concern” starting in 2024. The policy will extend to the minerals that go into battery components in 2025. The move was seen by industry players as a way to reduce China’s role in the U.S. EV industry supply chain. In December, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Biden administration is considering an increase in import taxes on Chinese EVs, which are currently at 27.5%. In December 2022, China filed a complaint at the WTO against new U.S. semiconductor rules, describing them as trade protectionism. That same month, the WTO found that the U.S. violated international trade rules with its tariffs on imported steel and aluminum, following complaints by China, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/comp...5cec234b&ei=26 For such little people they sure have a large set of cojones. |

I don’t remember if I shared this here.
Arriving to the office about 5-6 years ago, I was circling down through the parking garage trying to find a spot. I was getting in late that day about 10am after an appointment, and the garage was totally full. As I go I come upon, no kidding, a new-looking white Tesla that is just in flames. Five cars on either side of it in this garage. Was very scary. I had never seen a car on fire like that, smoke billlwing out and spreading across garage ceiling. No one around at all. Anyway I immediately left the garage and told attendant on my way out. Paid to park elsewhere that day. I checked next day and was gone. |
