Not to poo poo on your parade but they haven't been getting weight distribution "perfect" for awhile now...and have been very quiet about it

Will the G42 M240i be xDrive only, or will RWD be available as well?

upcoming bmw 2 series coupe rwd appears with a camouflage
in just a few days, bmw will lift off the driving embargoes featuring the new 2 series coupe. A few selected media had the chance to drive a prototype version of the rear-wheel drive 2 series which will be fully unveiled in the next few months. To tease the car a bit more, bmw decided to release a set of photos showing the car with the typical testing camouflage.

While most – if not all – the design details are hidden, we can still see the proportions of the car. Just like the previous generation 2 series, the new g42 platform retains the rear-wheel drive architecture and therefore the typical long bonnet, short overhangs and a tight rear-end.

This specific model is the m240i, due to its trapezoidal exhausts and sporty wheels. Up front, we can clearly see the shape and size of the grilles through the camo. And thankfully, they haven’t gone through the same process as the new m3/m4. They’re a bit wider than the current car’s but are perfectly normal shaped kidney grilles.

The headlights have also gone through a major redesign and we believe the will look exactly like the leaked 2 series coupe from last year. Out back, it’s hard to tell what the rear end looks like, as it’s heavily covered in camouflage. But we can see that it has a teeny tiny decklid spoiler, further cementing its m performance nature.

Overall, the new 2 series seems a bit lower and sleeker than the current car, which makes it look a bit sportier.

When the next-gen 2 series debuts, it’s going to be one of the last cars of its kind from bmw. Two doors, four seats, an inline-six-cylinder (in certain models) engine up front, drive going to the back, and (hopefully) a manual transmission in the middle.

The engine range will be made up of 2.0 liter and 3.0 liter engines and most likely they will be hybridized. Mild-hybrid offerings will be on the table to make sure the car abides to the latest regulations in the field. The models on offer from the get go will most likely include the 220i, 230i and m240i. It’s quite possible to see a 220d diesel on sale too, but considering the current trends, that’s still in the balance.

The top model bmw m240i will also be offered with the xdrive for an all-year round driving experience. Stay tuned in the next few days for more information on the new bmw 2 series!

Feeling good about this car. Weight is the primary concern at this point, for me.

If they combine X-drive and a manual on the M240, I may need a new daily driver.

I would love it too, but it is very unlikely. Did BMW ever paired AWD and a manual? I would be surprised if a manual is offered at all with the new 2 series. I expect it to be an option only on the M2.

Needing to make a decision here soon and if i can take delivery of a new 2 coupe before October it will work out.

Any info when you will be able to place an order?

Any idea when the ordering guide will be out?

Yes, absolutely. As recently as the f30 3 series. E90 was available in all us engine options. F30 did cut back to only available on the 335 (not sure if it went away with the 340 change).

340 was available with a stick. Most M240i’s I see are xdrive, I wouldn’t be surprised if the new 2er is AWD only and auto only.

My local fast food has 3-4 young guys with 2ers (230i, M240i, OG M2..) and they are all automatic. Kind of blew my mind as I would have thought they would prefer manual, but I guess manuals are now only for older guys and gals.

The G42 now has a long rear overhang, so does the G82 which makes them appear less COUPE and more GRAND TOURER ADAPTED FROM A SEDAN. It's an odd looking blend, esp from the side and rear 3/4 angle.

Looking at the new M4 & M3 at a local showroom, the M3 looks far more racy and well proportioned.
I do get where you are coming from but I'm not sure I think these overhangs are too much and onto the 4 series and 8 series levels.

Could be shorter perhaps but looks pretty nice here.

Doesn't look to far off the F87 to me.

Yes they have, on the F3X cars. Paired with either the N55 or B58.

Sadly I agree with you, not very likely, but one can hope.

I sense where you coming from but IMO the F22 rear is to the very most extent kinda typical for mid to late E and to the very most F type series and there is nothing wrong with it IMO. The so called ´02er interpretation as suggested /depicted on the known leaks just make no sense IMO in terms of the shape of the front and rear lights plus signature. This subject may be as controversial as the front end of the G20/22 // G80/82 because it lags hardly of any heritage. The same applies to the headlight signature.

This is starting to look like it's going to be really good. Excited for the M2 for sure. The grill looks to be relatively normal and if it takes styling cues from the 2002 there's nothing wrong with that. Will be interested to see whether there are multiple versions of the M2 (base, competition, CS). Definitely keen to add this to my 1M and OG M2.

Has it been confirmed that the new 2 series coupe in both engine sizes will offer a manual option?

Nice reviews. Maybe the new 2 series will be an excellent car to own.
