Dog owners, protect your dogs at all times! The bigger they are the harder they fall. Is it even legal to use a dog on an intruder?

I know, I'm a beer puss, but I'm man enough to admit it.

We have two Shibas. Everything they say about them is true. Great dog but will take advantage of you, they are smart and don’t trust them off lead.

I have a goldendoodle as well, also have a bernedoodle. My golden is an asshole so I could see him ripping at an intruder if they had the nuts to come in. My bernedoodle is a pansy, she would probably piss on the floor or some shit haha. That said they both have pretty aggressive barks, I think that in itself is enough to deter intruders.

I'm 100% certain our 2 miniature dachshunds would raise holy hell until the intruder got in, at which point they'd (hopefully) run and hide instead of getting punted across the room. I have a Nest cam set up to watch them during the day and any time someone even walks up onto the front porch to drop off a package, not even knocking or ring the bell, its on. They both shoot out of their beds and run to the door barking. Great "alert dogs", terrible "attack dogs."

We were camping last weekend, sitting around the campfire after dark with the dogs and a pack of 5 or 6 little girls went running through our campsite chasing each other. In a flash Sophie (all 11 pounds of her) shot off my wife's lap and went after them with her most ferocious bark. The girls all screamed and scattered with one of them running head first into a boulder that must have hit her mid thigh. She folded over it like a taco. Never saw the thing coming in the dark. Lots of screaming and crying ensued while Sophie sat 2 feet away barking and not making the situation better. Thankfully she was on a 20' lead that lets her roam the campsite but not wander off. I'm pretty sure she might have bit the kid if she had caught her in all the excitement. So yeah, they definitely will alert us to an intruder but are completely ineffective beyond that unless the intruder is a 7 year old kid.

Our Mini-Schnauzer sounds like the devil from behind a closed door...and he definitely would attack I think. Not sure how much damage he would do unless he grabbed them in a sensitive area.

We have two Norwegian Elkhounds outside that would give a lot of warning as they can see the front pretty well, and if someone were stupid enough to try and come through the back fenced in yard, those two would be on them in a minute. I can't tell you the small game I have had to dispose of over the last 3 years.

Otherwise a Home Invader that actually made it in has much more to worry about than our dogs.

Yep, I'm sure they'd rather deal with the dogs than meet Kimber.

I realize that I will most likely catch some hell over this, especially here. I am extremely reluctant to even discuss this, but I have to express this in some fashion as I've let it eat me alive today.

Today Hamilton The Cat (yes it's capitalized because it's his first, middle and last name) will be re-homed. With my work schedule, gym, girlfriend and general adulting; I am hardly ever home. He is an indoor/outdoor pet, that either ends up being cooped up inside all day or stuck outside. I've come to realize that I simply don't have the time for a pet and unfortunately he is the one suffering because of my extremely busy lifestyle.

I feel like a complete bastard for doing this, but I also know it's better for him to have company, versus just being left alone all the time. The retired elderly couple, that are taking him in, are beyond excited about getting him today and have already called me twice this morning to ask what food he likes and what toys I think he would like to play with. This truly saddens me, but I'd much rather see him go to a home that will benefit his life better than what I can give him offer him now.

No hell to catch here except what you make for yourself. I have had to do this in the past. You may feel like you are failing your pet...but you are actually doing what's best for them just like you would your kids.

It will suck for you not to have him around, but think of the joy he will now bring to the other home...especially as excited as they sound about taking him.

The only time I ever look at something like this in a harsh way and I may even be wrong about it...is when people leave them straight up...or just head to the most convenient shelter.

At least you took the time and effort to make sure he would be well looked after!

Sorry to hear that, but ultimately it sounds like you are looking out for his interest, and at least he has a good home lined up for him. It must be difficult because I could never part with my pets.

The Doof would not really be effective for this.
He’s a good sized active dog with a husky bark, but that is it. Playful, thoroughly non aggressive personality.

The sound of the old mans voice and how excited he is to have him is about the only thing making me feel remotely better about it. I'll miss the furry bastard for sure.

I appreciate that. I'm pretty damn bummed out about the entire situation, but I'm also not in a place to where I can change my entire life/work schedule. I just keep telling myself that he acclimated to my home pretty quickly and has been a great pet; he'll do the same there.

Bet you are glad he can't talk. Oh the experiences he could share if he could.

But no judgement here - you are trying to find him a good home, and it probably is going to be tougher on you than him. It's not as though you are just dumping him on the side of the road like some people do - them I have no respect for.

Yes, I'm glad that he can not speak of the things that he has seen in my home. On the flip side of this, if there was a memory card slot and/or the ability to watch video of some of the things he has witnessed.....I'd pay good money for that footage!

Thanks Joe....

Got a Weathertech cargo bay liner for the X5. Black. Nice fit. Works well for me. That’s were The Doof sits. Nothing to cover the seats for he never goes there.
