Electric patrol vehicles?

For our small town/force, they *might* make sense. That acceleration, yo!! We don't generally, or even sporadically, provide support to other jurisdictions where we couldn't drive to/from/around/in between and not make it home in time to charge.

SB2 shot down. Big win. S/O to Tulare county sheriff for having a spine in all this. Not even a squeak from Luna which wasn't surprising.

Wild!!

I've heard that argument many times, but I also know that when someone is in jail they don't commit crimes. Meanwhile up the coast in British Columbia the same 40 criminals have been arrested 6000 times. Canada's bail system is now referred to as catch and release. https://twitter.com/PierrePoilievre/...359174?lang=en

It certainly would deter crime for some, maybe not all, and yes gets them off the street and into an environment where they have some tough decisions to make about their actions. "If I keep behaving like a criminal this is where I'll end up." How would that not deter someone? Lunacy.

So I only brought up the flame thrower because of all the gun talk junk. But me being the curious person I am,

It would seem that Minnesota doesn't have a restriction on owning a flame thrower, if a condition is met. I would imagine it'll be a court battle if anyone bitches about it.

It kinda looks to be a grey area.

Ebay says the sale of not a flame throwers are legal; and really not that expencive.

The radio running the entire time, etc. makes EV’s largely useless as a dedicated patrol vehicle.

Yeah, very few care for the current leadership of LASD.

Yeah, very care for the current leadership of LASD.
I'm just thinking about the number of times my Scout Car sat with the roof lights running, computer etc on and AC or Heat on a traffic point, and then the car had to be turned over to my relief for his/her 12 hours shift. I'd fill up at the gas pump out back of the station, how does it work when it takes 2 hours to recharge the battery.

Exactly! There’s just too much going on with a patrol car for an EV to be even remotely useful.

They should have the results of this test by now. I can't find any reports of ongoing testing or comments.

Eden Prairie is a pretty small department with 78 sworn officers. I don't think most city police departments have that few officers in any one division.

EP is a $$$ suburb, very low crime, mostly residential.
They are still using a Tesla. I'm not sure if it's the same one, a new one or another one.
I just pass through from time to time, don't live there.

I do remember talking with a state trooper after seeing the EV and asking what he thought about it. He said he was for it in situations. He said the idle time, reduction of contributions to black ice, reduction in operational costs all made it really appealing. Black ice was the major reason all squads in the state stopped using E85.
He said for a city setting it was a good test. But for him it would not be a good fit, they take the cars home with them (most city/county do not).

Here's a bit more about MN's EV patrol push,

If I had been a police officer, I like to think I would have been like this one when it comes to dealing with today's youth. What a champ.

I watch these videos and wonder where we are headed as a society. The lack of respect and common courtesy for others in this age is pathetic. Doesn't matter if it's a stranger, police officer or a co-worker. How cops put up with the retarded drunks without using pepper spray and tasers every time baffles me.

Bodycams were just being discussed when I retired, some officers were dead set against them, I tried to keep an open mind because the public just can't help themselves and it turns out to be true. I remember telling people about the idiots (I'm being polite) and people wouldn't believe me. I'll never say "I've seen it all", but not much surprises me.

This was hi-tech, we started getting these a few years after I got on the job. If you were a beat officer and were lucky you got a "portable radio", they weighted about 2 pounds, made a good weapon not such a good radio. Often the beat officers didn't get a portable but you were issued 2 dimes on parade (roll call) so you could phone the station or the radio room.
