Maybe it will perform that well on other tracks but it remains to be seen.

Supras are officially 335hp but they seem to be making that or more to the wheels. The 382hp version is said to be coming in the next year or so.

Just saw one today as they are being delivered locally to dealers. Looks smaller in person. I kind of want one now after seeing one but I'm going to be patient as there will be higher performance models in the coming years.

I have to agree with Chris Harris. Buying a car especially for sport coupe is a personal decision. Driving the Supra will have your mind switching back and forth between thinking whether you're driving a Toyota or a BMW is taking all the fun out of driving. Identity matters. There will be people for whom things like this won't matter, for car enthusiasts and personally it would bother me.

I thought it looked better in person too.

Saw one locally on MFR plates. It's definitely smaller than I expected. Very much a modern Z4 Coupe. Definitely better in person, although the red was metallic and more of a burgundy, definitely not a good shade, but I'm an Imola or nothing sort of person.

After seeing the new C8 yesterday, I personally feel whatever reason there was to buy this Supra has been completely obliterated. Same goes for M2, M4, Boxster, Cayman, maybe even some base 911s.

I'll put it this way... the Vette for 60K not only pushed the limits of the envelope risking a traditional layout but also looks decent... I am blown away by GMs effort... Toyota's half assing with BMW is another story.

The corvette has always been my attainable dream car and after seeing the C8, I kinda wish I had held off on the G29 Z4. Reason I didn’t get a C7 was because I knew the C8 was around the corner, my local dealer wasn’t willing to work on pricing, and the base C7 wasn’t that appealing to me as my sights were set on the grand sport or z06.
But then I quickly remember that this is a new generation corvette, using a brand new electrical system, by GM none the less. There are going to be quite a few bugs to work out I’m sure and with a new baby, I won’t have time to spend at the dealership to get things fixed. Plus the level of customer service is night and day between BMW and Chevy dealerships. I hated having to fight the dealership here to fix the 8 speed in my ‘18 ZR2, them conveniently never having a loaner car for me to use, ultimately making me drive an hour away to another dealership that did the fix the first time I got there. The C8 is a steal of a car, even in base configuration, for under $60k starting. But unless Chevy can fix their corporate warranty policy and enforce better customer service at their dealerships, the Supra and Z4 will provide the same level of enjoyment as the C8, at the same price, where these cars spend 99% of their useable life (the streets of America). |

The reason these turbo motors can be so quick with quite a bit less overall power than a lighter and powerful C7 are the following: 1) The I6 turbo, especially the B58, has a very wide and strong powerband with abundant torque everywhere. It's power under the curve is what makes it so quick/fast while making less peak power. The Vette's V8, while very powerful, is naturally aspirated and depends on more rpm to generate acceleration/torque. 2) The B58 in the Supra is making closer to 330whp/360wtq at the wheels which equates to around 390-400hp/420-430tq at the flywheel. Like every late model turbo BMW out there, it's grossly underrated. At the end of the day though, a base C7 should still be quicker/faster. The Supra will be closer than most would think, but it should still get slowly walked.

How many here were pretty set on getting a new Supra but after seeing the new Corvette have put the brakes on the Toyota and are looking real hard at the C8?

I can't imagine anybody but die hard Supra fans wouldn't rather have a C8. I mean wow, there's just no comparison to me anywhere. I guess you could get both, but with that money just buy one Z06 or ZR1 version.

It would be an overstatement to describe myself as "pretty set on getting a new Supra," but my enthusiasm for the car has dropped off massively. I'm at least 9 months from placing an order on anything, so I will see what the market looks like at the time for the (new) cars I'm considering... Supra, M340i, and C8. Believe it or not a huge factor is the ability to haul golf clubs and general utility. The Supra is miles behind the C8 in this regard.
