New to the M5 world... Comparatively speaking how would you guys rate the packages in this particular build to other M5's?

Hmmm...it works for me. Did you click on the VIN DECODER tab in the upper left of the page? If not, you have to click that button...then you type in the last 7 digits of the VIN you want to decode. The page should refresh after typing the VIN and clicking the DECODE button...scroll down and you should see the build sheet/option code list.

See pics below...the button to click on to decode the VIN is highlighted in the red box in the 1st pic. The 2nd pic shows the VIN field and the CAPTCHA question required to decode the VIN. Then the 3rd pic shows the box to change the language if you don't speak/read English:

The first one even provides a picture of the car (or one exactly like it, I guess).

Interestingly, my white X1 with black leather interior comes up as Brown with Beige leather interior in the VIN decoder. So it's not really accurate.

VR87451 is the last seven.

Unfortunately you didn't indicate WHICH VIN decoding site you used that gave you incorrect information.

Just out of curiosity...I used the four VIN decoding sites that were linked in a few posts above...and using the VIN you gave...all 4 sites came back with the exterior color being Alpine White and the interior being black Nevada Leather. Not sure what happened if you got something different...again, we have no clue what site you used or if you accidentally had a typo:

They have started to change the plant code letter and replace it with a number (well on my new vehicle VIN anyway) instead of a letter for the plant at character 11, I have 9 as the plant code, does anyone have these new plant codes and know which factory they refer to?

Look at the table at post #80, table section "Explanation of Position 11 (Plant of Manufacture)": "9" = Greer, South Carolina.

Ah thank you, I had copied the main table as I couldn't read it but missed the image/table below.

Got it now, thanks.

I have a question. When can the VIN be searched? Right after production or does it have to be registered somewhere first?

Production cars: in principle on production day.

Working VIN decoder

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a working VIN decoder? It appears most either don't work at all or inconsistent as if they have a limit to the number of search queries.

Here's a list of current decoders that I know of, including whether they still work or not:

https://decoder.bvzine.com - doesn't seem to work for VINs unless they have been searched for in the past

https://www.mdecoder.com - works but doesn't update (e.g. if you just received a VIN and you look it up prior to build, it won't ever show the finished car's full list)

https://bimmercat.com - doesn't seem to work for VINs unless they have been searched for in the past

http://bimmer.work - doesn't work at all
