The next gen RS7 is said to be a PHEV, too…. So get used to the weight.

Maybe so but I’ve not seen one. I saw a statistic/production counts here on these forums that less than 20% of M5’s have sunroof. So probably BMW decided the take rate wasn’t high enough to make it standard. I’ll bet it was a cost saving move more than weight saving.

I don't have to get used to it. I just won't buy that either. It's pretty easy for me. If I don't like what they are offering no one says I have to buy it.

My F90 has a sunroof, use it regularly too.

I don't see Silverstone.... may be a challenge for my SA, but I'm not completing my order till I can get SS or PMS and full leather.

Brakes will be fine…tires, not so much. Every time you go in to a corner “hot” your going to feel that extra weight transferring to the rubber.

There are only two benefits I can see in this new M5 design - longer lasting brakes under normal driving, and a silent ride without needing to fire up the engine to go to the grocery store. Everything seems like a negative. Time will tell…

I was told Silverstone was not available. Full leather I believe will start in March of 2025 along with Individual exterior and interior.

Wrong. I don't like cleaning my wheels, and these wheels are a pain to clean. So ceramics it is.

Very little friction braking in PHEVs (and BEVs) result in very little brake dust on your wheels. If you want ceramic brakes, go for it, but if only buying to reduce brake dust, they really aren't needed.

I have ceramics on my RS6 and love them for 3 reasons (and none of the reasons really have to do with braking performance).

1) zero brake dust
2) last the life of the vehicle (pads and rotors last about 15k miles on the RS6 and are about $5k)
3) they are 75 pounds lighter than the steel brakes. 75 pounds of rotating, unstrung mass is HUGE!

It sounds like items 1 and 2 won’t really matter on the M5 since the regen will handle a lot of braking. My wife has a Lexus PHEV, while I cannot comment on brake life yet, there seems to be very little brake dust. Given this, one of the only advantages of ceramics would be weight savings. The ceramics are 50 pounds lighter than the steels.

As a reminder, you may think “I’m going to track the car so I will get ceramics”. Unless you have DEEP pockets get steels. At tracks temps/usage ceramic brakes last no longer than steels, they are just better at resisting brake fade. I have a neighbor with an AMG sedan with ceramics. He managed to go through a set with just 2,500 miles on the car by tracking it. Most people with Porsche GT’s who track them put on steel rotors and pads.

I’ve been gone from BMW ‘s for a while. I assume “SS” is Silverstone but what is PMS?

And I 100% agree with you. My X5M had full leather. I loved it, but not enough to wait extra if I have to go individual to get it.

There will not be a competition version.

Can’t speak to a CS variant but unlikely.

Pure Metal Silver. Considered as one of the most complex (and expensive) BMW Individual colors.
Here‘s an old video about its creation.

Bad on BMW for only teasing us with M version only in the States.

I can afford it, but why only the M Sport version? It's a car that you can't appreciate in the States. The Audi looks better, in my opinion, but the new tech in BMW is top-notch. Please bring us an average wagon or, better yet, a smaller package (3 series. Your coupes make no sense either). I could consider it if the five had not gotten so heavy or grown. I drove the M version of the sedan and liked the concept, but it's too much of a car for most of us. Better off buying an A4 ALLROAD, or A6 Alllroad.

That’s not bad. The exclusive Ara Blue Crystal on my R8 was $7900. Seems like pure silver is a rather difficult color to do.

This is a common misconception.

If you TRULY are tracking your car (like I do my M4), then CCB's are crazy expensive! Unless you have really deep pockets - like an F1 team...

After a couple of seasons I had to remove them. At 12K for a set of rotors, 1500 for pads, and 6K for the tool required to accurately measure the remaining carbon, they are just way too expensive for a track car.

I actually removed mine and went to a RadiCal Racing setup from Essex. 95% of the stopping for 10% of the price...

However, I do put CCB's on all my street cars (if available) as they keep the wheels much cleaner (and effectively last forever on the street - unlike the track).
