I’m sure it will still sell ok. But the real M fans won’t be diving head first into this imo. This won’t be as bad as the xm but I don’t think it will sell like f90 did imo.
I am a real M fan. I’ll be buying the touring.

Did an OEM+ mockup of the front. New kidney grills, CSL front splitter, CSL wheels in silver, lowered, spacers. Could be saved with some simple mods.
Just for fun, don't take it too seriously

And well, it looks amazing.

Same size wheels, correct stance and some details would make this even more beautiful. Now as much as I like the whole design it's a bit mixed bag when starting nitpicking.

Seems obvious to me, does it not?

For perspective, anyone buying a 6k+ gvwr vehicle under section 179 now has what will most certainly be the fastest and best handling option under those parameters.

It’s quite genius really. Think of the pool of people that would love to trade in their g-wagon for an actual performance vehicle.
Doesn’t this apply for vehicles OVER 6k lbs?

Poor assumption. If you can afford a $150k car, but have a family, a bmw, Mercedes, or Audi is still the better option unless you desire a full on EV, which many don’t. I’m taking a G80 M3 CS or better yet G81 all day over any panamera, cayenne, or macan.

People criticized the M4…now it’s a highly sought after vehicle!! The M5 will be the same. The early reviews have verified that the car hides it weight well and it’s a driver’s car.

Keep hating hater’s, so I can buy one at a good price point!!

Not digging the crease at the area of the rear door and wheel-well.

Not big deal as I'd never own one.

It'll sell.

For me, I love the look of this car. While the weight worries me, I don't track my cars; an advanced and great suspension set up to mask the weight is plenty good for me.
Exterior styling confidence is at an all-time low for this company.

It's almost as if that has less influence than larger economic activity. Who purchases or leases a BMW? Those seeking to impress (credit borrowing is at an all-time high) and those invested in the market & other securities (which is where this false economy is rooted, and is also at an all-time high).

But not for the reason most people think.

One would assume the G90 will sell because people like it, but I don't think that this will be the case so much. It think the G90 will sell well because of "lack of options." Kind of like the beautiful country girl who rates a 10 who grew up in a small country town, didn't want to leave, and ended marrying an Average Joe, why? Because of lack of options.

Let's analyze the XM for a minute. We all know that the sales of the XM have been a abysmal, but you have to look at the market in which it competes. In that same segment you have the, the Lamborghini Urus, the Audi Q8RS, the Porsche Cayenne GT or even really a Cayenne Coupe S is still close on price the XM, the Mercedes G-Wagen, the Range Rover Defender, the Aston Martin DBX, and more. That market segment is cluttered with extremely tough competition, and all of the alternatives to the XM are really really good! It's not that the BMW XM is a terrible choice, but it doesn't really offer much of an incentive over the competition unless you just really really like BMW and want the badge.

Now lets look at the direct competition for the G90 M5 in 2025 and going forward from that year. We will have in 2025 the:

- Mercedes E63S: This car will also be a PHEV and with a 6cyl engine instead of a V8 like the M5. We don't have many details yet.

- Mercedes AMG GT63S and E-Performance: These cars still have the V8. The GT63S already does a claimed 0-60 in 2.6s, meanwhile the E Performance will come with 831hp and 1082lb/ft of [...]
I think the notion that people will buy something they do not [mostly] like is absurd really. People don’t generally buy anything they do not like, be it food, clothes or cars. People used this same flawed logic when the G8X kept selling despite predictions it wouldn’t sell well. There’s no necessity to spend six figures on ANY automobile, so there are plenty of options. Nobody is going to waste money in such a cavalier fashion. Even the “small town girl settling for an average guy” comparison borders on absurdity, not only due to the expansive reach of the internet (…a person can find a mate anywhere, tonight, if they wanted to….just by swiping), but also because small-town women marry for small-town values and family prospects; their reasoning often differs from the big city girl playing the numbers game.

I think a substantial portion of the M-car owners track their cars or care about BOTH 0-100mph times and cornering/handling. That ain’t coming from this new boat of an M5.

I can speak for myself, I have been financial planning to ordering an M5 competition some day, I have had 2 5ers, and driven M3 and M5 multiple times. This generation is crossed from my list and I will pony up to a Panamera or an RS6. I don’t need to test drive the G90.

Your question is rhetorical but I think you know what I meant, what’s a real M car or the target buyers. Cheers!

Gross vehicle weight rating of 6k+

Meaning, dry weight + full passenger and cargo load.

Dry weight of m5 is 5300lbs while GVWR is over 6k and therefore it’ll qualify under this tax break.

I bet it’ll sell like crazy because IT IS HEAVY.

This is a smart move by BMW even though M-purists will dissent.

Noticed this the first thing at launch.

I’d like to see the aero drag on that area, the doors have a nice sloping line from the front then …. boom, there is sharp contour which feels out of place.

Two set of designer teams build the rear and the side panels and the legos barely fit, true story
