Nice! Now I'm even more motivated to buy one!

Here's mine after I picked up my 10 year old Sub and my dad's 11 year old DJ from the AD after being serviced at RSC Toronto. First time they were meeting their new younger sibling that arrived while they were being serviced.

Does no-one like vintage Rolex? I wear a 1959 6605 with my 335i. You can't beat a classic Rolex for style.

I like new ones myself. I always buy mine brand new, just like my cars. Kind of a waste of $ but that is just the way that I am.

I am hoping watches that I have will turn "vintage" one day and my kids will appreciate it (through either wearing it or selling it)

I know buying rolexes is not exactly good investment but at least it is not as big a $ loser as buying new cars. This is an excuse for myself to keep buying watches

It is great to pass them from generation to generation.

That is a beautiful watch. My dad is going to give me a numbered solid gold Rolex that his uncle gave him; but I"m not allowed to wear it. Definitely one of those 'pass down' timepieces.

Buying used seems to be a good way to go. I like to buy "mint" but a few years old, this way you skip the depreciation and go right into appreciation. I paid $4800 for my Submariner a year and a half ago, and they're going for quite a bit more than that now (Z series). Unfortunately that watch was destroyed in my motorcycle crash. I replaced it with a Panerai (Pam 0072) that is already worth more than I paid.

Monday, I think I'm going to pull the trigger on another Z series Submariner. My Panerai I'm wearing more as a dress/special occasion watch, and I need a nice daily wearer.

I know you are right to a point, but the folks I know who are serious "watchies" don't seem to feel that way. I don't either. Rolex make a very nice watch. The Rolexes one generally sees won't have the most complications that can be found in watches, but that's not always the point. I for one just buy what I think is nice and looks appealing to me. I think unless one is collecting for a specific purpose, that's about all that's called for.

I have a couple of fancy watches - Breguet and Audemars -- but in truth, I find myself wearing my Tag more than any other watch I own, including two Rolexes. My two sons like my Rolexes; apparently that brand is popular among their friends. I told them they could wear mine if they want, but they could forget about me buying them their own anytime soon. (Personally, I wouldn't have two Rolex watches, but one I bought and the other came as a gift from someone who didn't know I already had one, probably because I wear the Tag so often.)

Anyway, very nice gift you received. Clearly someone is quite proud of you and your accomplishments. I know you'll cherish it and have it for a long time.

Nice post, and thanks! I definitely will. I'm trying to get the watch engraved, but just haven't had the time to drop it off!

A gold Rolex is an investment A car is not.

Gold Rolly will go up in price every year.

Picking up an M serial# Submariner tomorrow. Getting a good deal on it, and I know it's money in the bank if I ever need to sell it.

If a Rolex is the BMW of watches, then a TAG is the Audi

I put Audi right up there equal with BMW (maybe mistakenly) so I'd put another company to Audi, maybe Panerai.

Tag I would say Lexus or Infinity.
