Thats because in the US cars are cheap, taxes are incredibly low and average wage is higher (especially after last years euro inflation....)

exactly...most American buyers don't realize just how much their German cars would cost in the EU. I built my 230i with a US sticker of 38.3k USD (34k EUR roughly) would cost closer to 50k EUR or nearly 55k USD. I rented a 420d (our 328d engine) m sport 6mt vert for my last Euro driving trip (phenomenal touring car fyi) and specced it out to what was over 85k EUR at the time (fall 14). That's nearly 100k USD at the time. I think they're even more expensive in other countries...like Singapore.

There is nothing wrong with 320! I think most of us here are just spoiled.
My only complaint about the 320 that I got once as a loaner was the its halogen headlights. I couldn't tell if they were on or not because they were so dim! I guess those same halogens are on 328 and 340, too...

i would take the 320i over having a lexus is250 as a loaner (even though they arent made anymore), is it really that bad? as others said, it gets you from point A to point B, and whoever mentioned that Gary thread, all i have to say is that person is one of the people i cannot stomach in my life. i cannot stand when somebody is embarrassed driving a car thats different from their own. he should be happy enough that he can AFFORD a 7 series in the first place. i hope the dealership gives him the worst loaner they find i would kill to see that reaction.

I had a X3 as a loaner last week and did not have problem with the halogens, either... On the 320 I had they were pretty bad by any standard.

a poorly equipped loaner has also many benefits, like being able to really appreciate (until it will fade away in 3 days, again) what you have.
My current car got rear ended, was in the shop for 10 days, and I got an Audi A3 as loaner. My Golf has a pretty solid option list, with premium audio, all the driving assists. This Audi was the only one with automatic transmission, and although I drive A/T only for about a year, I really got lazy and wanted 2 pedals in the loaner, not 3. Anyway, all of their cars were A3 anyway. The car was pretty much naked. Not even multifunction steering wheel. No blueetooth (listening to FM radio was the worst part of the 10 days driving it), no keyless entry, no ACC, basic seats. And I realized how spoiled I am, being literally angry having to carry a key in my hand and putting in a slot to start the engine. Or searching for the key to open the car. At the end of the 10 day period I got used to all of it. I missed bluetooth to play music from spotify in my phone, but what the hell, it drove me where I need to go, it wasn't as comfortable, but when I took my car after it was repaied for the first drive I was happier than the day I took delivery of it a year ago. The little things, like automatic mirror dip when you reverse, auto-dimming mirror - things that you can have in the cheapest cars these days, but they were not in the Audi because it had zero options, it was the cheapest Audi A3 with DSG you can buy. |

I got a Fiat MT with No AC to drive in Italy last summer. The car had 71HP. I barely made it up some of the small hills in Tuscany. There are lawnmowers in the US that have more HP than that POS. Made stepping into the M5 that much more pleasant when I got home.

I got a 640i once and I drove the shit outta it. The tires are all gone after a single week and the engine overheated multiple times. The service representative called my father and complained.
All in all, I think that that 640i is a pretty good car. I was able to outrun a CLS500 on a country road despite being down on power. My fd in the CLS was quite surprised as he's not a slow driver.

And people on this thread are complaining and wondering why dealerships don't have the depth of "suitable" loaners or even BMW loaners at all.
