I love how BMW is breaking the mold in the future of car design and form. Although I think they still need to work on the creases and wrinkles, the car is going to rock the auto industry. I love the blinking eyes.

I think safety would be another issue for collisions. It really depends how the car is assembled under the cloth. I would love to see this make production though. I think the best thing about the car, apart from its flexibility, is that it doesnt look like its made from cloth!

im sure you people will get your BMW supercar. Besides, BMW doesn't have a facking Lamborghini chassis laying around to steal it and put its logo on it... so judging by Homage they are working on something and sooner or later it will be out. Probably by the time the R8 loses its novelty... alreay has actually. I never thought R8 was a pretty car, interesting for sure, but good looking? Not really. It has the Audi design language built into it... the language that has been the same for last 15 years!
Oh, and about the cloth.. Already now there is tons of uses of nano tech, smart shits just heal themselves, heal the paint, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if they whole 'skin' of the car might be made of some bacteria that will heal itself if damaged or sratched in 20 years time. In fact I bet you money they are working on this as we speak. Just takes time, and BMW after all is a small company compared to VAG.P empire.

Wow, a lot of haters...
I think its a really forward thinking design that could really change the way cars are designed / built in the future. It would be interesting to see what will come of this excercise.

There's also a video on YouTube. The coolest part was watching the "eyes" (headlights) open when the lights turned on.
I don't know if car condoms will take off, but I can only imagine the artists/tuners/whatever who would create alternate images for your car. Brings a whole different meaning to "modding". Bangle is insane. |

Awesome concept with a lot of advantages. Can make some seriously sexy shapes with fabric skin. Get fuel economy advantages from reduced weight and the ability to change the shape of the car at will to optimize aerodynamics. It's even plausible that you could change you car's color more easily. Forget repaint, think reskin.
It's ideas like these that make a company great. Not afraid to think and experiment.
