I think those 43% are people like me who started experiencing Bmw with the "real" 3 series 20-30 years ago and keep buying Bimmers with the hope of finding some remanent of true connection between machine and driver.
Sadly this connection is getting more pale with any new generation of Bmw.

I used to have way more fun in my manual E46 coupe than my current 600 plus hp m5.

Bmw is being transformed to a very nice car to take you from A to B. The thing is there are so many other cars out there to do the same thing. Apart from m cars ( which I still believe in them) I don't see anything special in a new 3 series or 5 series that a Mercedes or Audi or even a Kia stinger can not provide.

And why my next SUVs will all be American and why my next sports car with be the mid-engine Vette. Done with BMW unless the new M3 pure is the savior- which it won't be.

Like you I've been waiting since my e36M and e46M to get that feeling back and sadly it's not there anymore. I got happy when I drove the m2C but quickly felt like a female when I was laughed at getting out of the car by some friends of mine! (I'm 6'6" and the shit doesn't work). Oh well the ultimate driving machine is gone....

My daily is a Lexus IS.

Nice car but it's no E90 BMW. Still more fun to drive than 95% of BMWs nowadays.

Interior materials aren't up to par with the Germans but it's a very worry-free ownership experience. The car is basically a stop-gap as a daily driver until I have more disposable income for an M2/Boxster/Giulia. I likely won't be back in another Lexus, but the IS is legit.

Other Lexuses aren't for me. The GS and LS are cool but their SUVs are a visible step or two behind the best from BMW.

Which American SUV is better to drive than a comparable Bimmer? I'll be the first to complain on this forum about how watered down BMW's steering has gotten, but there is literally nothing from the Big 3 that's as good as the likes of the X3, X5, etc. And no the plasticky 10 yr old Trackhawk that goes fast in a straight line isn't it.

I guess I'm the only one that really didn't like my IS. I don't buy into the philosophy of an underpowered car that gets bad gas mileage.

BMW needs to survive in a market where the RWD, 6 cylinder NA formula no longer makes them money.
Yes they're known for their NA engined RWD cars but those are from yesterday.

Bear in mind that BMW competes with bigger companies like VW.
Look at the 1 series. It was always going to become a FWD car. Why? because it needs to satisfy customer demands in having good interior space, smaller engined and being low weight which aids in fuel efficiency.

4WD is becoming a necessity rather than a need. How does one put down north of 500Hp down to the road efficiently. You can see why the head of M was taken from Audi.

You either change and adapt with with the times or you sink.

Complacency breeds stagnation and lack of innovation. Let's hope bmw doesn't abuse that loyalty.

An AWD slushbox M3 with neutral boring handling and inferior interior to say an RS5 may be final nail in the coffin for this iconic car.

Audi is the master of boring handling with a far superior interior to the bmw. Why would I buy an AWD slush box M3 when I can get an RS5 ? Looks better and better interior.

Because it has a BMW badge ?

AWD only matters if bmw plays the peak power race game. If they focus on power to weight and handling over AWD. AWD does nothing except add weight, introduce understeer and impair handling.

Forum members are not typical BMW drivers. Yes, there are more performance variants offered by bmw than Lexus. No you don't have to own an M version to be a bmw enthusiast. But we are still a tiny fraction of bmw customers. What percentage of typical bmw owners know what type of engine's in their car? Exactly, last time I was at my BMW dealership I was looking at an M550i and I met a customer about to buy his fifth 5 series. He said he loved the 5 series. I asked him what he liked the most about his F10 and he said that he loved the 3.5L V6 in his 535i. I then went on to explain BMW's convoluted naming scheme and what types of engine each model uses to him Before this day he had never heard of an inline 6 once in his life!

I can agree on that my IS350 gets pretty bad gas mileage in city driving. But 6 years of ownership so far the car is trouble free wish I can say the same for BMW.

Jaguar has very poor residuals and still battles a reputation of iffy reliability and less than stellar dealer experience.

Your car is beautiful but unfortunately is more of a one off for Jaguar at the moment.

Well I didn't have anything happen with it except for a faulty lane change departure sensor that was replaced under warranty.
