It's very close to 4 seconds. There are videos showing it going head to head with the A45s and keeping up. That thing has 100+hp over the Golf R.

It did 4.03 sec in the Carwow video. So it definitely can go under 4 with a high octane gas. This car is a bargain.

I like the Golf...have liked most of the generations and this one is growing on me. I have a real problem paying over $40k for a VW though...that is where they lose me with this one

Wow, the 2021 Golf R makes 340 hp to the wheels (so around 390 bhp). That is absolutely crazy.

390BHP is more like it. I never understood why the R made so little power.

Makes sense now why it's beating the A45s in drag races!

I will forever love the GTI & Golf R. They are very fun to drive. And I think the most bang for your buck at their price points. If the new Golf R were out now, I might be waiting for one of them to get here and not an M340i. For real. Maybe a two year lease. But still.

Very much agree and I’m very sad that we won’t be able to buy the RS3 hatch here in the US. RS3 hatch is my dream hot hatch!

Audi wouldn't let the Golf R have the 2.5L engine so it appears VW in defiance jacked up the EA888. Great for us as IMO the 2.5L engine in this chassis ruins handling as even the front staggered setup of the RS3 can't prevent terminal understeer.

I wonder why there aren’t more videos of the drift mode when all we see are people drifting the G8x and using the m drift analyzer?

Haldex can only send 50% to the rear, and if they used the Focus RS setup, it can briefly overdrive the rear to 60%. That's the same as a quattro or xDrive car before slip.

Yup I had a car with the haldex system and can’t for the life of me figure out how they would initiate oversteer on that system. It took a ton of mods just to make the car feel barely neutral

Hopefully the manual gets a proper clutch this time. The MK7 R I had couldn’t even hold the stock power and felt terrible. Swapped to essentially a TTRS clutch & short shift along with CDV & return spring delete and the car was transformed.

Still better than when they came out with the Phaeton!

Also don’t entry level 3-series come out to around 40 these days? If so I’d take the R over a 320/330i.

Looks are subjective, but for sure it is gross on the inside courtesy of all the piano-black and touch-sensitive screens and capacitive buttons. I guess they saved a lot of costs there, to make it seem like a "bargain", but I am not sure it really is.

It sounds like you're saying that the xdrive or Quattro in a RWD-based vehicle (e.g. Audi RS4 or BMW M3/M5) is the same as the Haldex in a FWD-based on (Golf R)…

Maybe I misunderstood your statement?
Nope. Haldex is 100% fwd until there is slip, and then it's limited to 50% max to the rear. A rwd based BMW runs 60% to the rear with no slip and can send 100% to the rear under slip.
