I watch Joe for the amusement factor. He uses cliches more than the average YouTuber (though they all abuse them). Joe describes ventilated disc brakes as "fully ventilated" (apparently as opposed to the elusive "partially ventilated" variety) and other such absurdities. His "ON THROTTLE!" screams as he beats the living dogsh1t out of a brand new car on city streets is cringeworthy yet comedic.

Here's another good one nobody has mentioned yet - Vehicular DIY. The dude is really great. Walks through repairs, mods, maintenance, etc. using timelapse on the boring stuff, narrates really well, great production values, etc. Give him a shot..

Straight Pipes gives every day usability things you should know. Like the Box Test!

Savage Geese is straight up technical knowledge and makes you appreciate the engineering that goes into these things

i have a problem when reviewers just smile the whole time, get fake excited doing a pull, and don't call a car trash out of fear of the automaker not giving them more cars to review. chris harris wrote a famous article about this where is called out ferrari on their antics (ie sending a team of mechanics and multiple cars to a review setup for different tests because technically, you could order the car in different variations for different tasks) --> https://jalopnik.com/how-ferrari-spins-5760248



this is whats great about british journalism for the most part and the old BBC topgear... they didn't have to air commercials or worry about pissing off a manufacturer. they got their money from the tv licensing fee the people paid.

Vtuned had some great episodes rebuilding that McLaren but lately been kind of boring.

For me Shmeeeeeeee is intolerable, he just grates on me. In a close second and I don't think anyone has mentioned his channel but Archie Hamilton. I cannot for the life of me get what the point is, it's far from car lovers content or is it just me.
Clueless about the products, always plugging undisclosed sponsors and the same old content (new car, wrap it, big wheels keep sayings it's a game changer over and over and over and.....)

He seems like a nice enough guy and has access to some "mega" vehicles, but you are right he just repeats the same content...buy car, slap new wheels on it, lower it, wrap it, body kit, sell it.

After seeing several times The Topher on Youtube driving a M4 G82 with a manual transmission and the guys from Throttle House with their comparison between the 2008 M3 E90 and the 2021 M3 G80 I really started thinking about ordering one of the last BMW with an inline-six and a manual transmission. My wife mentioned during the video from Topher that she likes the engine sound, so I took this as an approval and went straight to my BMW dealer.

Throttle House for me is painful for me to watch. The intros are bad, silly b-movie productions that I don't find funny or entertaining. Thomas is ok but James' "dunce" style of humor is what ruins it for me and makes me feel dumber for having watched him speak. I much prefer Straight Pipes for generic car tests, Yuri and Jakub to me are far more likeable and don't make the videos unnecessarily silly.

Gotta say I was shocked by his car knowledge when I watched him on the smoking tire podcast with Matt. It was very entertaining and much more enjoyable to listen to him in a normal conversation tone.

Doug is a car guy through and through. I believe one of his first jobs was working at Porsche headquarters and he's worked his entire career in the car industry with Jalopnik, Autotrader, etc. He wasn't some rich kid that decided he was going to kill time by doing youtube car videos. Whether you like him or not he's far more legit than most youtube car people.

I try to look at every YouTube video available for a car, motorcycle, toy, etc before I make a purchase so I've come across the above mentioned youtubers very often to give my opinion

+1. Doug is an automotive journalist that has the same access to press vehicles as the likes of Car&Track, RoadShow, etc. You can see his and all the other reviews come out around the same time when the OEMs release their press embargoes. What I do like about his YouTube channel are indeed his focus on "quirks and features", the little details you would only notice if you were to drive the car yourself long term.

I'd treat all these YouTubers as these categories:

• Some form of journalism: they review new cars, go over industry trends, and provide commentary. Doug DeMuro, Redline, and The Straight Pipes fall into this bucket. IMO, I watch all of these channels plus KBB so I can stay up to date on what non-BMW OEMs are offering, in addition to their entertainment value.
• Projects: they focus on the wrenching side of car-related journeys and projects, general tinkering, and really hands on stuff. RichRebuilds, SamCrac, Hoovies Garage, and Tavarish are like this. I watch these too because I can probably learn a thing or two as I start to wrench on my own F31.
• Entertainment: they focus on the experience side side of car-related journeys and projects. Salomondrin, Shmee150, Vehicle Virgins fall into this category.

Most of the YouTubers are unwilling to be honest for fear of not getting access to new cars and therefore just give you fluff. Others are content based on their own vehicle collection seems formulaic because they will have to flip the car in great condition in order to fund the next acquisition. I find most attempts at humor to muss the mark with their 2 1/2 men style of comedy. I do watch:

-Hagerty
-Redline Reviews
-Lovecars
-Carfection
