Yet somehow the F90 Comp/CS LCI handled extremely well where it started to punch above its weight class, being compared to heavy 911s like the Turbo and offering a lot of car for the $$$.

The M5 DNA should always be the ultimate 4-door sports sedan, capable of both comfort for the whole family and tearing through canyon roads on the weekend. The F90 LCI was the pinnacle of that. Pretty sure the G90 threw most of that away and time will show how these handle side by side.

So, no identity crisis.

And yes, I don't need the designs of the past like the Hoffmeister Kink to carry on in every BMW into the future. BMW's heritage and history lies in other places in today's models.

And I'm a BMW design enthusiast, but more I'm a car enthusiast. I don't like all BMW designs, actually, there's been many I haven't liked. But even with those that I don't like, I like BMW's adventurous spirit. They swing for the fences. Sure, they come up short, can't please all of us.

I think this G90 is going to look pretty damn good with a few tasteful mods, like lowered with the wheels pushed out. Yes, it still looks massive, but in many ways, it's going to give it pure presence.

Good call, your perspective is well appreciated!

As a follow up,

I would be curious about your thoughts specifically on the design of the new upcoming 2 series grand coupe. It’s looking more and more like a Kia sedan per popular opinions on SM and from BMW enthusiasts.

Here is a link to bmw blog’s post with pictures/render of the new 2er to be released

I concur with what you said in defense of where BMW design is going but there are also clear examples of no design direction or bit of a riding blind scenarios.

Another statement I found interesting was M5 ‘requiring’ mods to look great. That’s a minus in my book, we can defend or justify all we want.

Not trying to pick an argument here, of course everyone has an opinion and a preference, and I am happy to respect that from a distance.

I used to think the bangle E60 M5 was the ugly duckling. But this new G90 takes the cake….by far. It’s the ugliest Sedan BMW has designed during my entire lifetime. Frankly, I’m shocked.

Edit: the 2 gran coupe is just as terrible.
