OP:
If you even have to hesitate then you obviously don't trust her enough to let the car go (for whatever reason, be it her driving skills, decision making, etc.). Fuck it -- put your foot down tell her a firm NO. Tell her you don't want ANYONE driving your car while you're gone. From the way she asked if she can borrow it, it sounds like she just wants to rock your car as if it were hers. It also sounds like she doesn't know exactly how important it is to you. You guys are probably not on that level of understanding/trust w/each other yet so you should also make it apparent and OBVIOUS how important that car means to you. Her being a good driver is definitely a good thing, but her (seemingly) wanting to drive the car to places she could otherwise drive her own car would make me feel uneasy. Go with your instinct... but keep in mind the fact that she is a female has absolutely nothing to do w/it. As for me: My entire family knows how important my car is to me (being my first big purchase in my young life) and for that reason they will not even attempt to ask for a quick drive w/out me in it.

Based on what little info you've given, I think her request is unreasonable and inconsiderate of you and you should tell her no, you're just not comfortable loaning out your very expensive car while you are out of town. |

No one drives my car. Period. If you're lucky, you get to ride in it. So far the only people I even let ride in it are my parents, close friends, and girlfriend.

Haha! I've had dreams like that man. I've had dreams I walk back to my car and I obviously forgot to lock it because 5 kids are climbing all over the inside of it and they just came from rolling in the mud. Yeah, in my dream I practically murdered every single person that I found in my car. I swear, I've had at least 6 dreams like this. I've had dreams that I'm driving 120MPH and start sliding and end up flipping the car. I've had dreams that I get pulled over and arrested for excessive speeding and some sweaty ass bum of a tow truck driver hops in my car and drives it away. Man, if that really happened I think I'd have to have the car put into an incinerator, or at least burn the seat, steering wheel, and anything else he touched.
The only kind of liquid allowed in my car is water and girl jizz. Girl jizz only because I have leather seats. |

When daddy bought the car it's very easy to look at it that way. Daddy will buy another, so there's no need to appreciate what it actually takes to put a E9x into the driveway. In HS, there is a disproportionate amount of one's time and energy expended in the attempt to be popular and hook-up so to speak. Let kids be kids....child-like questions are par for the course. There should be stickies that discuss the concept of insurance, contraception, mathematics with a focus on division, time value of money, which color is most popular, and etc.

Your GF already knows if you are anal about your car.
This is a test. The GF is trying to find out if she is important enough to you for you to let her drive your car unsupervised. Choose your answer carefully because your response will determine how the relationship moves forward.

Hey, hey, hey. Chillax!
The original poster has a mild point. In general, women do not value vehicles the way that a man does. They tend to be less careful as well. Most of us have spent time w/ women (...female automotive enthusiasts aside) behind the wheel, and many will agree that is not uncommon to find yourself cringing at some of the things they do behind the wheel, and the lack of attention they pay to how close they park to a curb (..or another vehicle), how wide they swing the door open when parked next to another car, how they modulate the shifter/clutch, etc. |

OP says his girl can drive.
I suggest that he offers a compromise.. tell her that you don't mind the idea of her driving, but it makes you uneasy while you are out of town. Let her drive when you guys go out one night. She will appreciate the gesture and it might make it easier for you to let her borrow it next time. A car is just a car. Anything that happens to it can be fixed for a price. Quote:
