I followed a white-tail doe and her twin fawns for thirty-minutes. They were relaxed at only a few feet away (Mom even laid down), but I couldn't get a clear shot, still, I'm happy with this:

It wasn't until I saw the image on my computer screen that I realized why he didn't fly away.

Nice Lemonade though, I think better than if the fly was in better condition.

That fly has seen better days. Great image, though.

Must be hard on the neck hauling that rack around.

Nice shot, Ed. No shortage of wildlife out your way, for sure.

Macros are much easier when the subject is dead-still.

Yes, I'm lucky to live close to the park.

And yes my neck hurts just looking at him

Airshow shot fomr today

I was out at the local airshow today in blistering heat trying out the new 7D MkII and 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L II combo. My goal was to practice my prop blur shots. Not an easy thing to do on moving aircraft. This was shot at 1/200s and 400mm. I still have to check my other CF card where I have some 1/125s shots. I'm not optimistic. It seems 1/200s is where I start to get usable shots.

Looks like you nailed it there Mark. When they are doing stunts like that 1/200 should be fine because there are on the power. It's when they are approaching for landing or doing a slow flyby where you have to dial it back to 1/160 or 1/125 or so. Helicopters need to down around 1/125 or so too as their blades travel much slower.

Thanks, Ed. Just noticing how many frames I shot, too. Yikes. Busy airshow + 7D MkII (rock and roll setting) = lotta shots.

Yeah, I always just make a quick run through Lightroom and delete all the obvious duds first. I have learned to be quite viscous on myself

Amazing he lets you get so close. We have feral cats here who run at the sight of us.

ISO 12800!

ISO 12800!!! by David Stephens, on Flickr

I've been trying to catch this non-typical white-tail buck in good light, but so far, no dice. He's quite a bruiser, with a solid, thick rack and those crazy drop-tines with bulbs on the end. Hopefully I can catch him a few days after he rubs the velvet off.

This was pretty ugly before I applied DxO's PRIME noise reduction.

Wow, I went to your Flickr site thinking I'd see the 5Dr in the EXIF. But the 7D MkII? At 12800?!?! Pretty amazing.

Another one from yesterday. This guy kept flying through his own smoke. I kept thinking the poor woman on the wing must be gulping air and it's all smoky. Makes for a good shot, though.
