This isn't a problem in america only, though my most current confrontation with it is with your school system.

When we lived there I was told multiple times by teachers that I should start speaking English to the kids at home. I told them that each culture has their merits and that the kids will learn both, not just one. And they did.

Now we are looking into yet an other school system, and I hired a tutor here in finland for my kids so that they can start preparing for yet an other language.

Ugh. To learn more, you have to master your mother's language. It is the the basis you build from.

As for the culture, I admit being a fuck up.
