We just ticked over 3.00" total rain on my rain gauge at 7:45 PM. Looks like solid moderate-to-heavy rain for most of the night on the radar.

The computer models were all over the place with rainfall projections here. I've got the over/under at 5.00" based on the median of their guestimates.....
Sounds like you're very knowledge with rain and whatnot. I know pollutants and toxins are in the raindrops but what is it's a heavy rain. Or if it rains all night. Do the raindrops get "cleaner" as the night progresses or is that not how it works?

Rain does allegedly take particulates (and allergens) out of the air, so it would make sense that the drops would get cleaner as the air loses those particulates. Not something that I have ever looked into, though. I don't even own a particulate (air quality) sensor.....

I've always been curious about that. Wondered if it got "fresher" the more or longer that it rained.

You got room for another test out back?

I have a water TDS meter in my toolbox, but not the sterile sample bottles that would be necessary to collect clean samples as a storm progresses.

My suspicion is that the water would be difficult to tell apart with a TDS meter after the first bottle, which would catch the bulk of the particulates.....

Holy shit. So much for dodging the storm. We got hammered. I can’t believe what I’m seeing on news. 7 people dead from flooding in NYC, almost 10 inches of rain. One town over from my business in NJ got almost 12 inches.

It's a mess. I-287S is closed in Edison NJ. At first I thought it was an accident. There must be 20-30 cars all over the road. They must have gotten caught in a flash flood. I'm the only one that made it to the office so far.

My brother just sent me pics of Route 22, not sure what town but new cars on a dealership lot floated over the median and are blocking the road. What a shit show.

Here are a few links showing the mess.

For anyone who is curious, our storm total rainfall was 4.73" in my rain gauge. No ponds in the low spots of our back yard that would normally collect water from a heavy rain, possibly because we were dry-slotted from the bulk of last week's hurricane rainfall.

Metro North has most rail service to NYC suspended this morning, and I'm curious to see if the Ramapo River washed out the Port Jervis line tracks near Sloatsburg like it did in past major rainstorms. If so, that could mean those trains are offline for months again.....

We chose to close our clinic today. We didn't want our staff and patients on the road. We'll see about tomorrow.

I can't believe how bad the Northeast got it. Obviously everyone had been so focused on Louisiana and the SE regions but wow. To think how much smaller the storm was by the time it reached NY/NJ areas yet still wreaked havoc.

That’s the whole area I grew up. My friends FB pics are devastating. This is almost 10 years to the day of Tropical storm Irene with very similar outcome
