My wife and mom plotted together to buy me a new lens. Still working out the kinks on using this (mainly got it for sports, but seems to take other pictures well too). Hoping to get more time using it...time's been tight lately. Lens is a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO DG HSM EX that I've been wanting for about 7 years now...

Sweet. Nice lens. Will take the Siggy 2x TC well, I bet and give you a nice lens for your aircraft shots.

Visited the Huntington in Pasadena last weekend (The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens), one of my favorite LA things to do. Caught some little rabbits munching on the lawn of a statue garden.

Lucky you. That's a great zoom for all kinds of situations. My f/4 Canon version is my favorite for portraits.

So oddly, I was looking into these earlier...was thinking of opening a thread on it cause I know nothing of them. There's a 1.4x and a 2x. Are they worth it? Which one?

Do I need to worry about distortion? How bad does it effect the aperture (looks like it would take a f/2.8 to an f/4.0)

The teleconverter reduces the maximum aperture of the lens by one stop (1.4x converter), or 2 stops (2x converter).

I've had very good luck using a Canon 1.4 on my 70-200 2.8L. 2.0 works OK in limited situations, but many people don't like the results.

100-400mm with Fuji 1.4TC The distortion around the edge of the moon is from the atmosphere, not the camera or lens.

I have the Siggy 2x TC for my 120-300 f2.8. I think it works great. The newest Siggy TCs can be adjusted via the USB dock, which I'm assuming your lens can use. And yes, the 1.4 takes it to 4.0 and 2x takes it to a 5.6.

The 2x TC-2001 is $400 and the 1.4x TC-1401 is $350, so it might be worth it to rent them first to see if you like them.

This was shot with my 120-300 with the 2x TC mounted for 600mm.

It may not everyone's taste but I'm really digging adding glow to my images of fireworks.

I think it's a valid interpretation. Once you extend the shutter speed to get traces, you've steered away from what the eyes saw. Adding glow is simply furthering the interpretation.

Great shot.
