Look at all the renders that are out there. They are pretty much spot on. I have seen the car and that's about how it will look. Only minor differences here and there.

I think we can all agree that it will depreciate like a stone. A mass-produced 140k sedan isn’t going to hold its value period. You buy these cars because you want them, not because you are thinking about depreciation. On another note, my biggest gripe with it is the plug in hybrid powertrain. I considered an XM and decided against it because I didn’t like the hybrid. The fact that the new M5 gets the XM’s engine is all I need to hear to know I won’t get one.

That overly complex engine kills my interest as well. Either stay with ICE or go all in on EV. Don't need both adding in massive weight.

Precisely. I don’t know why manufacturers are thinking complex hybrids are the answer. They don’t save much gas and the added weight kills off much, if not all, of the added power benefit. I recently read that the C63’s 4 cylinder hybrid is such a poor seller that Benz is bringing back the V8. Let’s all boycott this new M5 and they might just follow Benz’s lead and bring back the V8 too.

The new C63’s image has more to do with it being a 4-cylinder than it being a hybrid. The M5 will still use a V8 in the hybrid setup.

I think someone at BMW said the word innovation once and the design team just went with whatever they had.

Probably also said segment leader too.

Sigh.

They are no doubt forced to ensure that their co2 output is below a certain level for the fleet so suspect it’s in there solely for that.
That’s the compromise we’re seeing in there “interim” times with supposedly a ban on ice coming in in 2030 or 2035 where ever you are

There is some backlash with Mercedes Amy clue I think it was that had a mag 4 cylinder engine, not selling well apparently so Mercedes are now putting a v8 back in it

This m5 despite how good it may or may it be will be a compromise

Exactly. Only the difference, at the bottom you can see air vents for intake.

The number of M5s sold combined with the marginal reduction in CO2 will mean an extremely small impact on the fleet numbers.

I suspect they are treating this (and the XM) as “halo car technology showcase” where they throw everything at it but the kitchen sink. An industry “flex” if you will, and the tech developed will trickle down to the mainstream models.

Kinda funny since they’re really not doing anything groundbreaking… unless you count the ground beneath the tires. Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Either make it ICE or make it a plug in. Nobody wants a juiced up German Prius.
The 2016 NSX was a total flop due to a dual complex powertrain.

However, I am curious to see how the new 911 hybrid will be received by consumers.
But again, people buying 911's want ICE.
It's great having options though, no complaints on my end.

I say, do what you will with the daily driver appliances, but leave the enthusiast models and sports cars alone!

I love variety. Look what I drive. It's great to have that. Unfortunately this new M5 misses that mark.

It's comical that Merc was still calling the car the C63 when it has gone to a 4 cylinder engine. More like the C23.

BMW M5 first impression

Hello!

As promised.Just came from BMW event of reveal of new BMW M5 and X3 M50i.
It was static introduction of both cars and we could walk arround and sit in X3 but not in BMW5 for some kind of unknown reason.

COLOR: MATT SILVER with black parts. Car looks much better from front than current 5 series. Hood is similar like bmw g80 with dent through but not so prominent, maybe due the color choice? but carbon roof was sick, with very noticable dent from far away.. You could see that car is a rocket even before they put the sheet away from it since it was sitting nicely over that roofline..

Lights are identical as with i5.. but front bumper is much wider and gives a good stance.. grill is the same as with i5 m60.. bumper has two steps arround lights.. much better solved than current car.. i think regular car will have this solved in facelift for sure.. bottom grill is similar like a new X3 with some carbon design package as you could have G80 or G82. looks great.. i have a feeling that front grill hugs lights like BMW E92 M3.. very nostalgic feel.. REAR end is the best... very beast, like leaked photos but much more. RS6 looks like a girl end if you compare to this beast.. side view has a side grill but its disappointing with flat same doors as current bmw 5 series.. then other parts look like aftermarket.. but its much more agressive than old bmw m5.. quite nice... engine is same as bmw xm.. interior nothing spectacular.. no carbon seats on this car.. looks like xm.. x3 is bigger suprise.. i think x3m will be better choice..
