It’s just nonsense rhetoric intended to draw a line between buyers and provide a false sense of elevation. Most buyers of any car brand use the cars to get from one place to another, in relative style and while enjoying the creature comforts the car has to offer. The vast majority of these cars do not see the racetrack even once; track junkies are outliers in every sense of the word.

I wished I loved it more … I think bmw just needs more of a dramatic change to the body styling … ur essentially competing the m5 with a Mercedes GT 63 AMG and as much as I am not a fan of Mercedes… I’m kinda disappointed… was hoping for a “wholly F I want one” type of feel … but not a tingle for me … I think it’s just boring but maybe it’s me?

It is pretty chunky, but you know the circle jerk circus is going to go wild the moment IND unveils their modded M5.

Ya, the G8x has the same design feature as well so there is some consistency between models. 🙄

The real reason is the saving costs by using base model doors. And they of course tell us that this is intended to. I don't like this part, just looks out of place, no smooth transition.

Look how beautiful sculpted RS6 and RS7 are. And the body panels they are sharing are only the front doors and trunk.

To the folks that are buying this because they want to, you go for it!

To the folks that are buying this because it's just a new car, I just want to let you know that they will make new M5's almost every year too.

Will never understand how some of you think you are BMW board members concerned with sales figures.

Enthusiasts don’t care about sales numbers. In fact some of the most special cars have LOW sales.

We care about dynamics, design, enthusiasm. This M5 has none of those things.

I don't think this gen of M5 is going to sell very well. The performance is not good enough to justify having to install a power charger in your garage, and plugging it in every time you get home. It won't be as disastrous as the XM, but there will definitely be cars sitting on dealer lots for longer than has been the case for prior gens.

Cost saving because of base model doors? What kind of silliness is this? With rare exception, the ///M’s have always had the exact same doors as the car it was based on. Non-RS GT3’s have the same doors as a base Carrera, and so on. You guys reach too much.

Wonder how this will sell because it’s a hybrid and the styling isn’t for everyone. Would hate to be an early adopter on one of these and lose an arm and a leg 😬

Could’ve been worse but need to see in person to decide. Will definately consider. I wish it was quicker. Any decent EV can do 3sec 0-60. At the very minimum, it should be quicker than outgoing F90 since its hybrid setup has much greater potential. On the other hand, F90 looks very old/outdated which is always the case as soon as the new gen comes out.

It would probably alienate more buyers if it were an EV, but hybrids are pretty well accepted and alleviate the range anxiety (…and the ideological political encroachment).

M5 seems to be having a midlife crisis. If I were shopping I'd go with it's little brother, the M3. Or... an M8 while they're still around. But I'd pass on the heavyweight champ for now.

For sure. But I wonder if this M5 Touring will eat into X5M sales. Same weight (give or take), lower to the ground, more efficient. I would probably go with the Touring myself and have an M3 or M8 as the second car.

Haven’t seen any real world performance stats yet, the paper numbers look worse but maybe the extra torque and power offsets the weight enough. Some of the YouTubers were astonished with the power so will see.

BMW started cost saving program in 2021.

This is the first M5 generation to have different fenders than base models. All of them had M styling with extra details as fake vents, of course exaust and etc. There's no reason to make that sharp transition from door to fender.

And M3 have that too, there was discussions way before, that they just saving money by doing this and designers need to come up with the best of it.

You missed the point. Prior ///M cars had the same doors as the base cars. They were never bespoke, so to suggest that having the same doors was a cost saving measure is factually incorrect. The comment about the sharp transition is a design cue. They don’t need a “reason”.

Most companies have processes in place to save money by streamlining production. That isn’t anything new and it has always been that way.

I’ll be curious to see how the new generation M5 sells. Everyone has their own opinions but, as of right now, I don’t have any interest in the new M5. From my perspective it is way too heavy, poor performing (if the performance numbers are anywhere near accurate), and this M5 has a confused identity with being a hybrid. Technology is to a point that if I’m going to rationalize going partially electric on what is supposed to be a performance vehicle then the only logical thing to do is go full electric if I’m not doing an exotic hybrid. I went and test drove a Tesla Model S out of curiosity and with the FSD (which was unbelievably good) I’m tempted to buy the Tesla to replace my wife’s M550. Apart from my wife’s vehicles the only non-truck vehicles I have purchased in the past 18 years have been true M cars (multiple M5’s, M3, M8, X5M). Maybe it’s part of getting older (I’m now in my 50’s) but I just don’t get the hybrid M5…it doesn’t make sense.
